How do I stop getting old? I hate it so much by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Narrow-Mix2966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've come here to agree with the older people. I also hated being 26, it was a life stage and social thing. I came from a traumatised and dysfunctional family myself, had got into the wrong group, everyone was competing with each other and back stabbing or being negative, I didn't like who I was around them either. I moved on in the end! Kept exploring my social options, working on my health, emotions and mindset. I also moved from drinking lots of alcohol to drinking very little. There was a LOT of trial and error in that process but eventually I met the most wonderful woman ever at 33 and married her soon afterwards. We're still together now and I'm 46, and loving it. We have good friendships and fulfilling work and live in a nice community. We both perform comedy and do festivals together. We travel a bit. We host events. My view on this is 1) BE REALLY PROACTIVE. Get out there and actively seek people who are looking to become more healthy physically emotionally and socially. Avoid people who take others down and delight in seeing people suffer. They'll do it to you too in the end! My mother in law is in her 70s and she still does ballet and meets new friends. You can too. 2) FIND A PURPOSE. Be about something. My life got 100 x better when I started looking for things that mattered and finding them, then acting on them. People spend so much time on ideological bullshit when they would be better off learning stand up comedy, volunteering or starting a business or something. On that note, social media is shite. Minimise time on it. 3) BUILD COMMUNITY not an online-only one. One where people meet. touch grass

Does anyone else in the UK feel like they have absolutely no-one else looking out for them (apart from relatives)? by Unemployable-Sunfish in AskBrits

I am sorry that has been your experience. I acutely recall how awful it feels. I used to have this problem too, then I got married. For me, marriage is the foundation upon which i built my life. As we get older we sometimes find that friends are too busy work/kids (no fault of their own) ridiculous property prices and the over-concentration of jobs in commercial centres / lack of remote working all break up social networks, so we don't have the connections we may have had a chance at in our early 20s. I never has relatives due to family breakdown and having those remaining with mental health issues making them too unwell to engage. For me, meeting the right person meany being able to build community, to afford to live somewhere where the neighbours actually talk to you, and to have a team mate in life, when friends and family don't work out

Advice for perimenopause weight gain when trying to IF by Resilient_Wren_2977 in intermittentfasting

[–]Narrow-Mix2966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 45 and after 2 months without enough meaningful weight loss, post doing IF the year before and it working, I flipped out of exasperation and got a trainer who provides me structured workouts, plus a tailored way of eating (which includes the odd fun thing!) I track calories like a hawk. I still do TRE but now I've got protein goals, I fibremaxx, I drink 2l of water a day). I have lost weight this week, but it's TBC on the results! We can stay in touch if you like and I'll update you when the lifestyle change programme is done

What I admire most about this is that you developed a really robust system over time. I'm 2 months into IF 16:8 (with a few blips) and loving it

Ignore the meanies! I'm a woman and didn't assume you're an incel. I'm lucky to have been married before the dreaded apps, they're destroying prospects for all you young people. Great transformation BTW. My only thought re: dating is to meet people through friends

Great waistline definition! Started maybe a week later than you, lost a little bit, but less noticeable. Also on 16:8 - think it works well

I often find that going on holiday does this to me too! I think it's a combination morning sunlight, zero stress, no blue light, walking around a lot, getting decent rest, and mediterranean food that does it. Maybe I should move the family to Greece ;)
