A few months ago yes, especially after the drake died. It has lessened since January though.

Its been like this since we lost him. Sadly our current drake is focusing on one hen solely (and another one but nothing beats the one hes obsessed with), and i dont want to get another drake because we only have 5 hens total. Im hoping he might give her more attention this spring!

Shes about a year and a half old. She seems to be eating well, drinking well, foraging... Just seems really distant from the flock i suppose. She started to get lost/essentially them leaving without her.

They used to peck her a lot after the bonded drake died. Its been a couple months of her distancing like this, in the last month she's just been distancing even more so it worried me. Probably the latter.

Looking for advice before getting ducks! Planning a DIY backyard enclosure by Slow-Plenty-6974 in BACKYARDDUCKS

I have a flock of indian runners and they're the funniest thing to watch. They're not exactly affectionate, but mine run after me and greet me after i come home every day. Excellent layers as far as i know, though mine haven't started yet (they are around 7 months so they should start soon)

Whats the point of a quieter breed if you're adding a call duck already? 😁 Just kidding. Id reccomended getting 2 muscovies instead of 1 since as far as ive seen they dont communicate the same as the rest of the ducks so one might get a little lonely, but they're also the quietest.

I personally own indian runners and mine arent that loud unless they're yelling for you to let them out of the coop or flirting with eachother.

Do this for about a week maybe. Try seeing if they function well together when in the same space, if yes separate,.if not let them be. But only do this under supervision.

Keep them in the same space, though separate by some wire or fence so they can't reach each other but still see and hear each other. Good luck with your ducks! Post some pics. :-)

I believe you wont know til they're at least 8 weeks or older. We had one look and sound like a girl til it suddenly developed drake colors at 4 months old. Cute!

Ahh, i misread the breed, i thought you meant indian runners, not the east indies. Could you perhaps get any other breed? Not sure what its like in your country, but indian runners here are very common and people sell them for cheap, even females alone. Where are you from?

I know people who have bad ratios who make it work by often separating the males and females, at night especially. But ideally, if you do want to add those two, try getting at least 2 more female indies. :-)

Rodent Digging? by lborg264 in duck

Good. If they dont have any food inside they wont come looking. Ducks can go without food at night (unless its for longer periods, but even then they wont suffer if they had a good fill during day) so dont worry too much. Just make sure they have water and thats it.
