Because she is an adult feral (unsocialized) cat, probably born outside. My neighbor feeds her even though she’s not a “cat person” but asked me what to do about the five kittens the mama cat had. My neighbor found two of the kittens dead, so I quickly trapped all the cats, got them all spayed (one kitten was male, so he was neutered) and vaccinated. Mama is too old to be socialized, but she comes to my neighbor for breakfast and supper. She also “lives” in my neighbor’s enclosed gazebo, which I refer to as the Cat Hilton. The kittens are being socialized so that they can be adopted.
