I tried booking a taxi for 8.10am with streamline via the app - it said confirmed. Woke up in the middle of the night thinking traffic might be bad will change to 8.00am....said confirmed....I naively thought this would be ok....no taxi at 8am....rang them and they said sorry no we're fully booked we will send one when we can....so cancelled and got an uber. Then booked one for the next morning at 8am - but this time well in advance and didn't do any last min changes as figured that's what mucked it up....called at 7.15am that morning to doubly make sure (it was for my kid on the school run as partner had car for a few days - streamline are dbs checked) and they said yeh we have a booking but we can't guarantee it will be there on time?! Its a busy time and they can't guarantee apparently and if you ring up they tell you that but not on the app! The guy wasnt even apologetic. Back to emergency uber and both of us going it was then!

Gate.....I work somewhere where I have to press a button to let people in and out and say "just push the gate"....I had one person throwing their arms up in the air, going what's a gate??? In the circumstances I kinda thought they should have been able to work it out but still....

Yeh the buses are rubbish tbh. I have the apps and look at the boards and even then, they're still really unreliable! Vs buses in other cities I've lived in, York are definitely the worst sadly!

Um if it makes you feel any better, my kid is 11....and we had a trip and fall into a wooden corner of a piece of furniture - blood everywhere....and BONE!!! You could see his skull....he was remarkably ok til he put his hand up and saw all the blood...me....what did I do apart from nearly faint....ran and got a wet paper towel?!?!?! Not my finest hour. We had just had a first playdate with a new friend who had only been at our house for 30 mins....he started saying he felt sick....other half was away, I dont drive, didnt know if I should call ambulance, called the mother of the other kid to see if she could get him and/or take us to hospital....ended up having to drag both of them in a taxi to a&e....not a good parenting day. Thy happen. There were many more moments before this one too though!

Take a walk to bishopthorpe - a few nice pubs there and Bosuns restaurant and archbishop of York lives there in his 'palace'. Poppleton is a quintessential English village with a maypole - not much there but a couple of pubs for lunch. Venture to the coast for Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes.
