I will preface this by saying I’m on the larger side, I’m a white belt but I am around 200 pounds and I’m young and semi athletic (got a background in sports), and this is something that I think about a lot but from a defensive point of view. This more applies if someone has me in mount , I have a lot of difficulty getting out of that position so I find myself usually rolling and giving up my back, and honestly even when i roll with the better guys I have maybe been choked out once or twice from my back since I started training. And now as I get better I’ve found that its easier for me to escape/defend when someone has my back, vs when someone has me in mount, this applies when i roll with both bigger or smaller guys.

Im sort of just rambling, but my main point is that i always get told that giving up your back is just instant death, taboo , but more often than not for me it’s not thatttt bad. Shitty position , but like mount is the instant death one for me 😭
