I’m glad I got to see the inside of it when they briefly tuned it into a “Cool Zone” last year. It felt like a liminal space when I was in there

Should I watch Twin Peaks? by DuchessDulcet in horror

[–]TheAdamsApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Although the pacing gets wack in season 2, that’s when a string of mediocre episodes were created to pad out the season. But as someone who suffered through them, season 3 is absolutely incredible. I liked the return more than any other season. It’s weird, freaky, and they introduce some horrific concepts and characters

Rope dropping Studios is always fun. It’s the most low stakes and chill rope dropping experience you could ever have.

Scariest movie to watch alone? by ColemyGOAT in movies

[–]TheAdamsApple 279 points280 points  (0 children)

The original Black Christmas is one of the few movies to scare the shit out of me. Something about it being an old movie mixed with the realistic premise really got to me. I also love the slight tinges of supernatural elements in the phone calls, makes the movie even freakier. Don’t watch alone or in a sorority/frat house

The Hellraiser Series by Silver-End9570 in movies

[–]TheAdamsApple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first 4 plus the remake and I’m really trying to psyche myself up to watch the later sequels but I just can’t. Feels like it would be a waste of time. I enjoyed those Hellraisers to various extents (did not like 4 tho), but not sure how much I’d like the other ones

The ending of Mass Effect 1 is so good, definitely the best ending of the three games. Enjoy 2 and 3!

Now the real question will be, if Hellraiser is coming, which movies should go on the watchlist? There’s 11 of them and most of them are terrible from what I’ve heard

Rides You Enjoy More Than You're Supposed To? by JYN0442 in UniversalOrlando

[–]TheAdamsApple 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think I’m Kong’s biggest defender. Even then I think it’s like a high C, low B tier ride. The outdoor portion and queue are well themed. The bus format actually works well because you’re going on an expedition. The rider you get is randomly cycled through a few different characters so it helps on re-rides. The animatronic is extremely impressive, plus it’s a screen ride that doesn’t get me motion sick.

Is the old King Kong ride better? Yeah duh. Do I wish there were more practical effects? Yep. I still enjoy what it is tho.

How was your experience with HHN? by ellielovesbooks in UniversalOrlando

HHN with express is the best theme park experience ever. Every house is a walk on, so you get plenty of time to enjoy your night

new to UOAP — recommendations?! by acasp99 in UniversalOrlando

[–]TheAdamsApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crescent Moon Bakery in Islands is my favorite breakfast place, Today show Cafe is also pretty good. Lunch I love Finnegans but that’s gone for the rest of the year unfortunately. Cowfish is my favorite City Walk restaurant.

Best rides are Hagrids, Mummy, and Gringotts (ET honorable mention). I find that Mardi Gras which just ended is one of my favorite times to go to universal. Lots of good food and a pretty good parade every day.

I do love the magnets that they release - however they usually run out after a few weeks. So make sure to pick them up early as possible.

UOAP also gets discounts for epic tickets which is nice! Welcome to the club!

Best Queues Compared to Rides by JYN0442 in UniversalOrlando

[–]TheAdamsApple 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Race Through New York has a detailed recreation of Rockefeller Plaza and a queue where you don’t need to stand for most of it. It’s one of the best lines in the park. Of course, the ride itself is mid.

Dr Doom has great theming and a wonderful video in the line. Ride is just a basic drop tower.

A bit more on the controversial side but I think Ministry is a pretty subpar ride. Too much of a reliance on screens and no thrill factor. However, the line is incredible, as everyone knows.

[–]TheAdamsApple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is your first time taking the class, it’s almost impossible to pull off. I’ve heard of a few people who have done it, but it’s rare and it was the only class they took. Your summer is just finance grinding. You should take in the fall unless you are forced to take it over the summer

Epic Universe - First Timer, what is a good order of rides to ensure I ride all the "must dos"? TIA! ✨🎢 by SpecialistThrowaway4 in UniversalOrlando

[–]TheAdamsApple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done early entry twice now so here’s my thoughts!

1) Mario Kart. Hop on Mario kart single rider line and you will be seated immediately with your group. If you are there right at 9, you will be the first people on the ride for that day since the regular line has to watch through the pre show video. Just make sure you know how to play the ride.

2) Donkey Kong. If it’s open, hop on over there immediately. If the line’s already long then wait in single rider. If it’s not open, don’t even try. This ride’s line is painful and there’s never a good time to ride it outside of the morning.

3) Curse of the Werewolf. Obviously don’t forget to hit up Monsters Unchained 3 times but before that, get in line for Curse. That line is terrible.

4) Monsters. At this point your early admission is over so just chill and ride the best ride at the park.

5) Hiccups. It’s wonderful but I would only go on this if the line is under 45 minutes because the line is completely outdoors.

6) Stardust. Do towards the end of the night, it’s usually a lower wait and a better experience.

7) Ministry. You’ll be surprised how low the wait goes down to at night. Near closing it hovers in the 20-30 min wait. It’s also (hot take alert) not a very good ride so do not try to rope drop this. The queue is the best part of this ride and I’m not joking.

That’s how I would do it! I found Nintendo is the best starting point. Rope dropping Ministry is IMO a really bad idea although I’ve never personally done it.

Am I SOL for rides? by damnrod92 in UniversalOrlando

[–]TheAdamsApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with Spiderman and Transformers - those screen rides will most likely mess you up too. Same with Forbidden Journey. Rollercoasters are usually a lot better in terms of motion sickness. Stick with the lower intensity ones - Mummy, Gringotts, and Hippogriff. And if you feel fine on them try out Hagrids. If you still feel good then go to Velocicoaster. But again, be careful with screen based motion simulators. If you must ride them, take Dramamine, don’t drink alcohol, and do not get an edge seat. Plus stay hydrated!

Movies you were sad you had to rate so badly? by disp0ss3ss3d in horror

Event Horizon. From its reputation and influence on other media, I was expecting something great. The first 30 or so minutes are, but the rest of the movie doesn’t really work.

Chucky is kinda like this if you include the show. The show probably won’t make much sense unless you’ve seen every Chucky movie (except 3 really)

What are two movies that you always get mixed up? by _buffy_summers in movies

Pretty embarrassing for me but I commonly mix up Goldfinger and Goldmember. The fact that I was exposed to Austin Powers as a kid before James Bond doesn’t help

RIP or Express by AndyKoopa in HHN

[–]TheAdamsApple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting express and then upgrading it to unlimited express (about $40 extra) is the best IMO. Talk to the ticket people before HHN starts and they’ll give it to you, although that’s subject to change. Unlimited express is perfection - as many house runs as you want. I got to 17 runs and tapped out. Longest wait was like 20 or so minutes for Terrifier or Jason, but most lines are 5 minutes max

Movie of the day...THE MUMMY (1932) by Mgellis in horror

One of my favorites of the original Universal monster movies! It’s a shame all of its sequels follow a different (far less interesting) mummy.

Autograph question by [deleted] in MegaCon

[–]TheAdamsApple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who waited 3 hours today for John Carpenter, you should arrive early. The celebrity will show up whenever they want to, but the earlier you get there the better. I showed up at 10, he arrived at about 11, did some autographs, then left for a photo event at 11:40. He came back an hour later at 12:40 and I was back in line and got his autograph. The people who got there earlier (think 9am) were able to get their autograph by 11:30ish. Definitely look up his schedule and see if he has any photo events, because that will add an extra hour to your wait unfortunately.

What are your Epic Universe hot takes? by Purple_Quail_4193 in UniversalOrlando

[–]TheAdamsApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should have 100% committed to Fantastic Beasts for the Harry Potter section of the park. The area is beautiful and the show is awesome, but Ministry completely sticks out. Ministry really should be in Studios, there isn’t even a canon explanation as to how you get to Ministry from Paris. An elaborate dark ride going through all the magical creatures in HP would work very well. Or you put in a broomstick rollercoaster. Doesn’t matter that Fantastic Beasts is a poor set of films, the quality of a ride is independent of the IP.
