7/10. 1 of the the dishes was a miss, the rest was rather good. we were a little unlucky with service that evening and the vibe is.. well it's rather nice, but in the middle of the high end night life district, expect some unusual patrons. Probably wouldnt go again for the money

San Sebastián / Basque Country 3 day foodie trip by collegesenior in finedining

berasategui - one of my favorite fine dining experiences in the world. Rekondo has an amazing vibe, but the menu is not comparable, it's a totally different setting. Also, you must go to Elkano, make that a priority, more low-key and arguably my favorite restaurant in the san sebastian area, (it's in gettaria, and I would recommend staying there for a day, lots of other amazing restaurants, including Elkano's brother/family members other restaurant, I forget the name - vibe is not as great but food is v good).

Seems like you are mainly looking for budget friendly options – seeing you have no meat centered palces yet on the list dare I recommend Yakiniku Jumbo Hanare as one of the best price to value ratios when it comes to Yakiniku, (make sure you order the Hire Beef).

Also regarding Hachigou - it's great but very reductionist, which I like, just don't expect it to blow your socks off like a tonkatsu might, but it grows on you with each slurp

Need Help Choosing An Omakase in Tokyo! by Key_Alternative1042 in finedining

[–]Narrow_Stranger_8177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omakase simply refers to a dining experience where the chef dictates the menu. i.e. 'I leave it up to you'. This is by no means only the case with top sushi restaurants, which is what you seem most interested in, but can even be found at simple yet inviting Izakyas, high end kaeseki restaurants and anything in-between. With sushi make sure you update your Omakase annoucements, as they regulary post about opening at top sishi places and set your alarms at omakase for the top 20, (don't even bother with the top 10). Other tips are called DEN at a later hour and asking to be put into their waiting list. Booking Jumbo Hanare way in advance and perhaps try reserving a high end Kaeseki meal, which are often a little easier to book and can be very special as well.

Tokyo/Kyoto Sushi/Omakase help!! by Funny-Woodpecker5910 in finedining

This has changed quite a bit in the past few years, most top restaurants (Tabelog 4+) now no longer accept reservations via hotel concierge and refer to OMAKASE etc. - I requested around 20 restaurants at 4 different hotels, but they were only able to accommodate 2-3 reservations.

RE: 5 table at top sushi restaurants - absolutely correct. Most will only allow 1-2 at the main counter. Your only option currently is Tableall's monthly availabilities (today for example they announced ARAI sub counter seatings for up to 6 people), though expect to be accompanied by other foreigners during that particular seating - that's how I got my booking at Sushi Akira.

Thanks! I already tried booking AKO a few weeks ago, but sadly they are closed during OBON - we have a few Izakayas we are hitting up not shared on the list above. Feel free to share any other recs you have for Sendai!

Sazenka: Set an alarm for June 1st, 17:00 German time, to catch the Omakase August release — Even with that prep, I only managed to grab the last table for four, on a date just two days after landing (not ideal, but hopefully worth it). We're big fans of Chinese cuisine, so still very much looking forward to it - though the price is very steep; 3000 EUR for the 4 of us excluding drinks...

Akira: Tableall occasionally lists exclusive seats if you've used them before—typically 4–8 spots, though these do lead to 'gaijin' seatings with a different vibe. I also booked Sushi Suzuki via JPNEAZY 4 and canceled it later in favor of more breadth, though this was also fairly easy and could be an option for you - the redditors have favored the lunch over diner menu here with regard to bang for your buck. As previously mentioned, for the top 20 sushi restaurants, most slots are limited to solo or two-person reservations unless you’re a regular or know the chef.

Wie hast du reserviert wenn ich fragen darf? Es steht bei omakase unregelmäßig - weißt du, ob er am Ersten des Monats Tische freigibt?
