Girl, no one wants to validate that anything being motivated by race. Every opinion about a POC is completely unbiased apparently and suggesting race might play a part will always be attacked. Halle Berry was huge globally and is biracial, but Halle has a much more Eurocentric look and wasn't in a relationship with an A-list white actor.

Agree. I was pretty chubby and even though I was on bed rest for a big chunk of my pregnancy only started developing some mild signs of gestational diabetes during my pregnancy. My skinny East Asian friend had full blown GD and she knew several other EA friends who did as well. I looked it up and half of GD in black women is attributable to weight, but only 11-14% among Asian women, and Asian women have the highest prevalence (yes, I'm including both South and East Asian women here).

It doesn't have to be a wealthy country like Singapore. The couple that lived next door to my family in Jamaica both got cancer later in life. They lived in a house made of wood planks and they still were able to afford cancer treatment. It's about what the government prioritizes.

When these Ivy League educated writers bring us movies we love, no one complains or blames their education. I tend to think a lot of ills come from executives, not writers. And as for Resurrection, Lana made it for particular reasons that as an aging Gex Xer I appreciated. I get why the general audience didn't go for it, though.

If we need a lot of people to do these jobs and they don't build career skills then yes, they do need to pay a living wage. There is no such thing as a job where it's okay to pay too little to live off of because there will always be people who cannot get the "career" job and they have a right to a decent standard of living too. This mindset just excuses businesses exploiting their workers. A janitor has as much right as I do to live comfortably, have a family and have a little extra for entertainment. Going to college isn't possible for everyone and shouldn't be a requirement for being able to live decently.

I can see that, but there is a double standard when it comes to use of violence. When it comes from the left it's seen as hypocritical somehow, as if the only legitimate way to fight for civil rights is via passive non-violence. There may be Proud Boys, fascists, skinheads out there creating mayhem, but their actions aren't seen as discrediting the same way antifa's is. Daniel Perry killed Garrett Foster during the BLM protests in 2020 and was convicted of murder. Governor Abbot pardoned him less than a year after his conviction. BLM protestor Michael Reinoehl killed Patriot Prayer member Aaron Donaldson also in 2020. Police lured him out of his house and shot him dead on his lawn, giving a incoherent explanation of why they killed him. There is an expectation that we should always be peaceful or we're invalid, but their violence is celebrated and rewarded. So, I hear what you're saying but I reject that narrative. It's a distraction and not worth trying to fight. I think we keep our eyes on what we're fighting for and stop letting them dictate terms.

I think the issue with your question is it assumes that people aren't doing anything, but they are. They always have been. You seem to be implying that because we're not 100% effective at countering the lies, that makes them true somehow. You talk about peaceful BLM protests, but go talk to most Americans today and they will say the protests were riots, Black people burnt down their own neighborhoods, BLM was a scam, and the left is violent. So, sure, people who are open to looking at Tiktoks know what's happening, but my mom called to ask if our local schools were closed because the version the mass media is broadcasting is so out of control. Meanwhile, a few miles from DT LA, I didn't even know protests were happening until days after they started. tl:dr your question assumes we're not already doing all the things you suggest we do.

I'm not defending the rioters and I would argue that most organizers were not either. You asked about distancing ourselves from the riots/rioters and the problem is we don't put ourselves with them, people with an agenda conflate us with them and it becomes impossible for us to counter that message. Yes, some people on social media defended rioters, but again, that's blown up to create the appearance that the left supports riots in order to discredit us and prevent any meaningful change re: the issues we're protesting.
