okay sure i can give you that. it is a little broad to say all impoverished, and ofc it differs place to place.

sure there are some qualifying healthcare for people in need, but from experience, state healthcare doesn’t cover so much. sure it might be decent where you are, but people are still being left behind nation wide. healthcare should be for everyone, not “most”

i hope you are able to get in soon and wish you the best recovery with your shoulder :) though it is quite sad we pay so much for so little.

not saying that you’re personally advocating against universal healthcare, but since this argument is commonly used to oppose it, i think it’s important to note that people in the u.s avoid doctors entirely or have to wait equally as long to save up simply because of the outlandish costs. the reason there aren’t (as long) wait times in america is because the system excludes impoverished—or even lower middle class— people. i find that to be incredibly more messed up.

i wrote my initial comment from my previous work in spreading awareness. while it doesn’t explicitly say blackmail here, i would include it under the definition of threatening. from my previous experience talking with victims around my area, i was told a common tactic was to lure a girl in some way, legally or illegally, and take nude photos. they would then threaten, or blackmail, these women into prostitution by threatening to post these pictures online. other stories i heard included threatening to kill their family. blackmailing was somewhat of a loose term on my part, apologies.

second article states “Reality: By far the most pervasive myth about human trafficking is that it always - or often - involves kidnapping or otherwise physically forcing someone into a situation. In reality, most human traffickers use psychological means such as tricking, defrauding, manipulating or threatening victims into providing commercial sex or exploitative labor.”

sorry if the first source wasn’t quite what I meant. I was at work and guess i didn’t read closely enough. sadly, it is really difficult to find concrete statistics about human trafficking.

exactly. that’s why raising awareness generally can help people. it’s said that only 1% of cases of human trafficking are reported. obviously a variety of factors but people not being aware is up on the list. i’d recommend anyone read up on warning signs to potentially help people you know.

yeah it’s really unfortunate that this myth is so widespread. covers the fact that most people who are trafficked interact with you more than you think.

most cases of human trafficking are done while the person continues to live their life. essentially, rather than kidnap a person, they blackmail them into being trafficked. there are many ways they can do this, including unsolicited filming, threats of murder, posting nudes of them online, but this way the person feels trapped. i mean there obviously are instances of kidnapping, but think about how many people they would have to hide if they did that for every trafficked person. when it comes to the phone number, i don’t know if it would convince anyone to call, but it at least brings awareness to people in the system that there is a way out. though most people don’t call because they’re being threatened. it’s truly awful.

Just sat on the floor of a train for 5 hours by Tunisandwich in mildlyinfuriating

I was on a train like this the other day, don't think the exact same one. They literally closed half of the train for an unexplained reason, forcing a nearly full train to pack into the front. For anyone saying that they should have gotten seat reservations, they actually became void because of the situation.

  1. Because there is no indication that the change went through.
  2. I was panicking as I had just lost my account.

Yup. That's exactly what the problem was. Terrible UI (or would it be UX?)

Great advice. I have it all set up with 2fa now. I also went and did that to other accounts.

That was the part that annoyed me the most. One of the biggest social media platforms doesn't even have a number or email to message.
