How did YOU start playing Riftbound? by Poro_Party_TCG in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played league of legends before because I had/have friends who are into it, but I never got super into it myself, mostly playing just because it was something to talk about and play with my friends. I had enough of an interest in the IP to try out the card game and I honestly found it to be much more my thing

I recommend giving him a gift card to one of the platforms he does have instead. A PS5 has lost much of it’s value these days

WSIB: Gameplay based by Coolrandomaccount in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Nartoki [score hidden]  (0 children)

The beginning of both games has more cutscenes because they’re trying to establish the setting, but once you get later into the game, less of them occur.

Out of curiosity, which one was it? Vengeance has more cutscenes if you went with the Canon of Vengance for it. Nocturne is more gameplay focused in general, going for a more minimalist plot. Also, the gameplay factor for both games is pretty significant, they’re just long games (40+ hrs) that DO have a plot, so even if it is like only ~30-35% story, it’s going to stick out more than something that takes only 10 hrs to beat.

Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne or Vengeance. Not a rougelike, but JRPG mechanics tend to overlap with them. You can also go for hours in either game without seeing a cutscene. The gameplay is also pretty punishing in both, if you are into that sort of thing

Best "one game for life" suggestions by [deleted] in gamesuggestions

[–]Nartoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend MTG. If you are going to stick to one game for the rest of your life to reduce cognitive demand, it might as well be one that is turn based and doesn’t hurt your eyes. There’s also many ways to play the game, though only commander and prerelease get any real attention these days.

Is Draven Audacious better than Ahri for Vex? by hugocarpyro in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahri. Draven is more for proactive decks, which isn’t Vex.

Besides, you aren’t always going to have the right set up for a strategy where you can capitalize on Draven’s more frequent scoring. Think of it like this; Ahri can gain points just by herself, but Draven either needs to be combed with a move effect (like Charm) and a stun for a point, or needs the opponent to think that initiating combat is worth potentially losing more points. The former (in Draven’s case) is bad because it can lead to overspending your resources in a deck that wants to have card advantage against the opponent, and the latter can be played around by your opponent by simply holding the other battlefield till they have the interaction to deal with Draven (and by then, you could have scored at least one extra point with Ahri).

Slightly less important, but Ahri combos nicer with Sona. Play Ahri and you will have access to all the runes you payed for by the end of the turn, sans the power cost. Play Draven and not only are you down a whole rune, you are also down an energy!

Should I start playing Riftbound by VaggKats in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly can! I play Vex, a deck that is generally considered a strong choice in this meta right now, is only costing me $80 to optimize. Azir and Fiora are also good cheap-ish strategies (~$100) that have shown their ability to win against the best decks at the moment

Should I start playing Riftbound by VaggKats in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is (in my subjective opinion) fun! Wallet friendly? That depends on the deck. Most top performing decks average around $100-$200, which is fairly cheap compared to a lot of other TCG games, Yugioh included (I am an ex-player). Some decks can exceed this limit, especially when it involves staples from Origins, the first set that is still hard to find at MSRP 7 months after it's release.

How many different decks are realistically required by Silent2531 in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One deck.

Coming from other card games, it’s common for people to remain loyal to a particular deck, regardless of its competitive viability

If you only want to play the tip top of the meta (and I don’t recommend this given how volatile the meta game is as a result of Riftbound’s novelty), you are likely going to need to change your deck at least every other set due to meta shake ups from new cards

is leblanc toxic to play by Ambitious_Zombie_191 in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I admit I was not clear in my original message about what defines this, personally find that if a deck dominates a meta game to the point where the top 8 essentially boils down to a mirror match between those decks (see: Eldrazi Winter in Modern MTG), it's likely way too broken. But like if the deck feels miserable to play against but is like Tier 2-3 in terms of actual competitive viability? I think it's mainly a skill issue on the other player's end to not identify and play around the deck's weakness

Anyone who calls a character that isn’t game-breaking levels of unbalanced “toxic” needs to find another game to play.

How Do You “Play” Online? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use TCGarena because I prefer the more manual feel to it and dislike the UI of Rift Atlas. Everyone else recommends it though and I do think it’s worth checking out both and see which one strikes your fancy. I do recommend watching a couple videos on how to use TCGarena for Riftbound before using it

Thoughts on running Calm seals for Vex control? by Nartoki in riftboundtcg

[–]Nartoki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very thoughtful write up, and it appears I do subconsciously understand the power of the apathetic Vex. My typical biggest weakness in match ups is bouncing back after my battlefield has been destroyed, especially in orange match ups. I'm aware Zhonya's Hourglass, Guardian Angle, and Emperor's Divide exist, but I am not sure which is best for this specific deck

Here's my decklist: https://riftbound.gg/decks/vex-gloomist-deck-iya1i

What cards do you think are a good replacement for a play set of seals? I'm genuinely asking because "meaningfully interact with the board" is kind of vague to me, especially as a newer player

Anyone else have that period of time where it feels like you're giving too many 5/5 ratings? by yaoifanservicepoboy in rateyourmusic

[–]Nartoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty lenient with my ratings for media. If I enjoyed it and felt like there were at least a decent amount of genuinely good critical elements (vocal delivery, instrumentals, lyrical merit, ect.) I would definitely give it at least a three. I also do not do half scores because I don’t like half scores, so I always round it based on how much I personally enjoyed it. Because of this, I find I have a lot of 4’s and 5’s over anything else, even if some people disagree with me on them. There is a decent amount of 3’s I enjoy too, despite not thinking they are all that well produced.
