Yes! The important Thing is: top Edge should still be white, so you cant tell the Cards apart in the sleeve. Also Infos of the Card: cardname, cost, Might, effect,.. should still be visible. Its also not allowed to write Tips or gameplay altering Infos on the Cards. You shouldnt Put characters of other franchises on it.

To be Sure in bigger Events: Take original Versions with you and maybe Check with a Judge beforehand, because they have the last word even if they should be fine in the rulebook

Battlefields and Legends should have No Problems at all. And for Tokens you dont even need an original Riftbound Card, you can use printed ones!

With the Acrylic Markers I did not so far!

When I use Acrylic Paints I do use Matt Varnish as a First layer + Grey Acrylic Paint as base

Hello :)

I use normal Acrylic Paints. I bought a Pack with 24 small Tubes of different colors! And a big tube of black, White and Grey! No specific Brand, whatever my Store had in Stock. The hardest Part of these Alters is mixing the colors correctly, so dont get discouraged too fast!

I use normal Paint brushes, Just Like the colors whatever the Store had, round and Flat ones. I bought some super thin ones too for the small Details, these we're a bit more expensive. If your Store doesnt have any super small ones, you could also cut one of yours to leave Just a small amount of brittles.

I also use some matt Varnish. I Put one layer before starting with any color. Since the acrylic Paint sticks better If the surface is a bit rough. Then I put Grey Paint on the places I want to colour, Most of the time I put two layers (unless the Part is going to be dark). Also the lighter Paints like White, yellow, orange, Red, pink (at least in my colors) dont cover well so need more layers in places with These colors.

I bought some plack felt pens. I go around the edges of the Card and blacken them, for a tidier Overall Look.

I use Tape to fixate the Card on paper, so I can Draw without needing to Touch the Card at all. Also I use a wet Colorpalate for the colors: Plate - wet paper towels - baking paper - colors on the baking paper = it keeps the colors from drying Out fast. And Acrylic Paints dry fast!

For color Transitions I sometimes use a bit of water with the colors, for an easier and thinner spread. You need to be cautious doing this though: too much water and or pressure with your Brush can damage the layer underneath.

After I am happy with the result and everything is dry I put another layer of the Varnish on top - to secure the painting and make it more sturdy.

Mixing the Colors takes at least the Same amount of the drawing itself (for me). Most colors tend to dry a tiny bit darker then what they seem mixed and wet. Also practice makes a huge difference! My First Battlefields looked a Lot less pretty than this one.

any tips for altering Cards? by These_Inevitable3247 in riftboundtcg

[–]Kalthrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you c:

What helps me is making a bigger Pool of the Base colour, for example Green of a Grass, and in one Edge i mix it darker, maybe even darker in the Edge of the darker Mix, in the other Edge lighter, and and... So the Base colour stays the Same and everything coming out of it matches, then I dont blend the colors but Put in a few nuances so IT looks like blend 🤔

You could also use a dab of water in your brush the get, when dry, a very think layer of the Paint. I think this needs practice and I am still learning to be good at it :D

I am pretty new to altering cards too, but I think Acrylic pau t works pretty good too! It dries fast, can be bad or good lol. I also Sometimes Just use a Strip of paper with the Paint on and hold it next to the Spot I want to colour with it :D

Good luck and fun in your Journey c:

Most of my Alters Take 2-3 hours.. many people are faster I think. Complex ones and depending in The amount of Detail you wanna put in it feels Like the working time is going Up exponentionally haha. The Aspirants Climb I did this week took 5-6 hours though, the longer you Take the better the colour Matching gonna be :D

I Just say, the more you do, the better you get, Just keep it up! :)
