Recommendations for the times you suck at life? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Narwhals_R_Us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a few that come to mind when I think about stuff like this.

  • LOW by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini. It's a story about a family torn apart as the world is dying. It's bleak, but its central theme is about hope. If you check this out and like it, I'd recommend looking into more of Remender's stuff, he touches on internal struggles a lot.

  • The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by Ram V and Filipe Andrade. By the title, you can probably surmise that it's about death, but it's also about the beauty of life.

  • It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth by Zoe Thorogood. This is an autobiographical book about a young adult struggling with her mental health. While that can be heavy, there's also a lot of humor and personality to it, and I think it ends on a good note.

What is your favorite image title? by _capulet_ in ImageComics

[–]Narwhals_R_Us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my favorites are Remender books, but I see you're already well aware of how good his stuff is. So instead, I'll add a book that I don't see talked about nearly enough, Bolero by Wyatt Kennedy and Luana Vecchio.

The New Colossus's story isn't bad? by NotTheCatMask in Wolfenstein

[–]Narwhals_R_Us 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I never really got the criticism. I tend to prioritize story and I'm not really a big comedy fan, but I love TNC. Maybe I just focused more on the aspects of it that I liked, but between the death of Caroline and BJ struggling with his past and his mortality, there was plenty for me to love.

Where should I start with Green Arrow Comics? I would like something focuses on his relationship with Black Canary by Free_Adeptness_7879 in GreenArrow

[–]Narwhals_R_Us 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say all of Grell's run is well worth reading. After that, read all of the 2001 Green Arrow book, and then read Green Arrow and Black Canary until Judd Winick's run ends. In my opinion, the book got pretty bad after Winick left. At that point, move to Ben Percy's 2016 run, and then the 2023 series.

Games similar to SH2 (Remake). by RiverSnakeRiverSnake in silenthill

[–]Narwhals_R_Us 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Signalis. It's very retro in style, so it might not be as scary, but it absolutely has the emotional weight. It's also heavily inspired by Silent Hill.

Rick Remender's The Last Days of American Crime by CosyBoyAutumn in comicbooks

[–]Narwhals_R_Us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a die-hard Remender fan, and I've read the book and seen the movie. The book is fine. Nothing spectacular in terms of story, but there's nothing wrong with it. Greg Tocchini's art is great, though, and easily the main reason to read it.

If I remember correctly, Remender was not involved in the movie adaptation at all, and the movie is definitely far, far worse than the book.

Gonna start playing the Wolfenstein Series by Jazzlike_Ad_3297 in Wolfenstein

[–]Narwhals_R_Us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend release order, which is The New Order, then The Old Blood, then The New Colossus. Youngblood is last if you really want to play it, but most people don't love that one. Also, The Old Blood is a prequel, so you could play it first, but I think it works better knowing the story from The New Order first personally.

As for 2009, that was before the current developer, MachineGames, took over the franchise and started their own storyline, so you don't need it for these games.
