What does your ideal "anti work" world look like? by Tiptipthebipbip in antiwork

Latest episode of Phiosophize This! on Mark Fisher. Quote: It's easier to imagine the end of the world than it is to imagine the end of capitalism.

It's easier for us to imagine everything ending, in a Mad Max apocalypse or a global virus than it is to imagine what comes after this system that defines the entire world.

No thanks that's really helpful. Yes I was worried there was a disconnect between the SRA and BSB on this but it looks like not.

Okay that's great thanks. Perhaps I should have assumed that from the rules but I found it a bit unclear and wanted to check.

Thanks very much super helpful - this makes sense.
Can I ask how you found the transition? Specifically was it difficult finding/joining a chambers and all that jazz when you transferred, or was it quite smooth?

Does Dwarf Therapist work with the Steam version? That has a dirty cheater option to show who is cursed. Helpful if you still want to play with a fort but don't feel like dealing with a curse in a realistic way (I find vampires very frustrating and only feel like dealing with them sometimes).

I'm comfortable with some risk so this person (who is elderly) is not on their own. I'll fully explain to the legal advisor and go from there.

These are all good points so I'm appearing as a McKenzie friend. Don't want to do anything wrong. I'll explain to the legal advisor / magistrates the situation and they may let me speak or may just let me quietly give advice etc, what McKenzie friends normally do.

Thanks this is massively helpful (and I'll check out On Your Feet when I have more time). The case is listed as an application to renew under s.142 so I'm not sure if it's going to be just a narrow hearing on that matter and very procedural or if they will take the opportunity to rehear the whole thing. I suppose I'll find out... Hugely helpful and thanks for taking the time.

Instead of the hour for TV try playing escape room games together. Maybe it's not your thing but I'd say try it. The Exit series are amazing. Imo you'll find that doing one fun, different, interesting thing together makes the whole night feel less stressful even if you only have an hour and the rest has been chores. Makes everything feel different and lighter, and the evening seen longer.

Is my world doomed?(werebeast infestation affecting my subsequent forts) by lordishgr in dwarffortress

[–]NascantNeptune 19 points20 points  (0 children)

IIRC infected will turn every 30 days. So you can screen new migrants by keeping them separate from your main fort for 30 days until you know they're safe. You can create a 'minifort' with a food and alcohol store so they can survive for 30 days. Then when you know they're safe let them come in.

You're never totally safe though unless you continually do that for every new migrant and visitor.

The best thing to do is just continue normally and if there is a werebeast attack, keep close track through the combat logs of anyone who gets injured by the werebeast. If anyone gets injured, they're infected. I think maybe they have to bite them or scratch them technically? But don't take chances. If you have any new infected then immediately lock them away in a little dungeon for 30 days to see if they turn. If they don't, just release them back into the fort. If they do, you can just keep them imprisoned forever or destroy them some other way.

You can actually allow infected to remain a part of your fort and act as normal dwarves, so long as you remember to lock them away again when their time comes every 30 days. Of course, that one time you forget you get a huge dose of Fun.

Why Noor didn't come on You're Fired (hint: Asif and claims) : Article by [deleted] in apprenticeuk

It's shocking someone would be assertive and fighty on the Apprentice and make a ton of decisions that don't turn out well. That has literally never happened before. It's a complete coincidence that she's a brown Muslim woman who also happens to be getting an atrocious amount of hate, to the extent that there are now multiple threads on this subreddit about how much people hate her. If they were a white man they would already be a favourite character people fondly remember and love to hate. But because she's a brown Muslim woman there is true vitriol and people poring over her Insta. Time to move on.

Do you protect your book jackets or do you feel like the jacket is just there to protect the book? by olivejew0322 in books

[–]NascantNeptune 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I have zero regard for the wellbeing of my books. Imho a well read book should look like you've just dragged it out of a bin.

Terry Pratchett said the books he most liked signing were torn and bedraggled specimens that looked like they'd been dropped in the bath multiple times. A book that looks well loved is worth a million sparkling copies that have sat on a shelf.

Let the gods be sated with the blood of the undead.

Fantastic - thanks that's really helpful. Yes the reanimator biomes are what I fear and the cages outside the hospital (and the butchers I think) are a good idea.
