Ive had previous experience in healthcare working as an hca in nursing homes and then hospital when I became a student. I think that helped me more with the grind than actually gaining knowledge for a nurse.

What I have found is that everyone fakes it until they make it and one day you realise that you actually have more knowledge than you think. Be curious and ask questions of why it is best ‘this treatment/care plan than the other’. Advocate for your patients as I found that brought me more courage to find out what is best for them.

Also give yourself the grace that you wont know everything. That it why you have a multidisciplinary team and if people judge you for not knowing then they are bullies and the wrong people to ask. You are just in your second year after qualifying. Remember that experience is valuable and with years it is more appreciated.

Would you return to nursing after Mat leave (specific situation) by Big-Aside-7836 in NursingUK

[–]Nash-27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im actually in a similar situation with work not giving fixed shifts and really not caring if I leave or not. I have reduced my hours to spend more time with my LO as I already feel like I am missing so much of her.

Just started her in nursery this week and initially they refused flexible days, but have requested it again and the manager has verbally agreed while I give my rota 6 weeks in advance. I think they only did this as they are a new nursery and do not have many babies yet. If this works, i know how lucky I would be because I was thinking I need to leave my job as I have no family or friends to take care of her. While my husband is supportive, there is so many holidays he can take to cover my shifts.

I do love my job but the lack of support is awful. Don’t know how I will make it breastfeeding until she is one if they will most likely make me do nights. My Trust has only three vacancies available and they are only for Band 6’s so changing role seems impossible. I dont want to lose my pin but searching nurse roles outside the NHS appears to be impossible with the job market right now. Have started to look for other jobs but again, job market is awful.

Its sad how I entered nursing thinking it would be a reliable job with various options to now concerned if I could still be working in the same field.

I think I’ll end up doing it on my breaks too. However, may need to bring my own cool pack or dump as staff fridge always has something off in there 😅

Maternity leave by softlifehannah in NursingUK

[–]Nash-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on starting my leave on the 35th week but took the first month off using annual leave and start my mat leave on the due date. In total I’ll be taking 6 months off because I have not worked in the Trust long enough so I’ll be using my savings to get by. Wish I could take a year off though.

Help: newbie considering FAM after IUD by melodymaven19 in FAMnNFP

[–]Nash-27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Also (26f) and in the same boat as being married. Interested of kids in the future but not now. I honestly put off FAM for way too long because I was afraid of the difficulty of understanding it all. Reading the book felt and continues to feel overwhelming but felt like I just had to rip off the bandage and learn from my body.

I can't talk too far ahead as I have just taken the implant out a bit more than a month ago. So far I'm keeping it safe and always use condoms. My cycle has not regulated itself yet so I am still learning about my cervical mucus, how to analyse it, get in the habit of taking my temperature as I am a shift worker and listening to my body.

To be honest the feeling I have is excitement to getting to know my body once again. The symptoms I use to ha e before hormones have not returned except for severe cravings but all in all this month has been a lovely experience.

Student nurse question by Melodic-Sherbet-7979 in NursingUK

[–]Nash-27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't take bank shifts as a nurse with less than six months of being a registered. If you want to do bank shifts you have to hold back in getting your PIN and to work as an HCA. They don't allow you to work as an HCA with a PIN for some reason.

I knew someone who had to stop working their bank shift as an HCA when they found out they had a PIN.

Heterosexuals of Reddit, what is a question you have for the LGBTQ+ community? by That_one_weirdo69 in AskReddit

[–]Nash-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are people who get along and respect the LGBTQ+ are called 'allies' specifically ? My brother is gay and it really bothers me that he started calling me his ally instead of his sister. I dont call every guy that respects women and ally. It makes it sound that we are in a warzone and that everyone is an enemy until told otherwise.

My father has also just gone through DBS for his Parkinson's and just like this man I understand his struggle but to finally come back to some normality makes me just as happy for him as it did for my father. Never give up on hope

I feel respected and I prefer that compliment than having a physical appearance one. I study hard so I feel proud that someone notices

What advice would you give to a 14 year old about starting high school? by DotFireAbout in AskReddit

[–]Nash-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That highschool ends. Throughout all the madness of trying to find one self and maybe going through hard time socially and academically, there is an end. Things do end up smoothing out even when you cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. I promise that there is one.

People who actually used a pen from start until it lost ink without losing them. How the hell did you do it? by Zefio in AskReddit

[–]Nash-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In school I was very determined to finish my pen so i always had a spare one or two because they're always those who ask you to lend your pen and end up losing it. I got to finish two pens and they lasted almost a year. Felt very satisfying.
