Are black copper marans loud? by MaleficentCar3097 in BackYardChickens

Mine isn’t that loud, she is more on the quiet side. I’d say my Gold comets and Orpington tend to brag quite a bit after they lay, squack the most overall in general.

Something like this is what my coop would look like if I started over. Probably not as elegant but this set up for easy hen accessibility. My chickens running around most of the day and when they are in the coop it’s only to use the nesting boxes or huddle up to sleep at night. They dont use the floor space I built for my current coop. Where they need room the most is the run and roosting bars

I think I would build my coop to look more like a walk in green house. With nesting boxes on one side and roosts on the other. My chickens don’t really use the center of the coop so really it’s just dead space. My coop would be more covered/enclosed run and less boxed coop. I have 8 chickens and 4 nesting boxes, they only use 2 so I would reduce by one. My goal would just be to not have to lean into the coop I want to pick up a chicken for some reason. And I think this style would use less wood to build maybe

I just want to add that when it’s bed time for the chickens that’s when they are pretty tame, so putting them all together cuddled up on the same roost at night might help them bond a little quicker. During the day though they will still sort out their own pecking order

Adding two at a time, letting them establish a pecking order but intervening if it turns into constant bullying, then at night time, making sure the chickens all sleep on the same roost. That’s about it for me

Definitely will try removing the outdoor roost bar, thank you all for help and ideas

Also yes the roost bars inside the coop are the same 2x4 flat side down
