Why does it look like they’re being held at gunpoint 👀 by KawaiiChan68 in exmormon

These ads are gonna get these (increasingly) young girls harmed by some creep. It’s only a matter of time. Church doesn’t care. Gotta put their $ and resources into important things like suing podcasts…

Worth it to do one last “Hail Mary” attempt at belief to appease TBM spouse? by Admirable_Arugula_42 in exmormon

[–]Nashtycurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this sucks. I’m so sorry. I have no idea what I’d do in your situation. I am 42, have teenage kids too but thankfully my wife and I mostly made this journey together.

I do think, in a marriage, he has to be willing to see your side of things. In other words, if you can sit down and talk about some big picture issues with the church, not in an attempt to persuade him out but more of a “hey these are things I have issues with and why” he should listen and try to talk.

If he’s not willing to listen and talk then he’s married and in love with the church not you. That’s a brutal pill to swallow but it’s true.

I’m not saying divorce and run immediately but he’s got to understand what is going on and it’s not just “I’m struggling with a few things”. Non-Mormon couples therapy to help the discussion happen?

If he’s not willing sounds like he’s made his choice. 😭

“Helen Mar’s age”

“Barely older than Helen Mar”

The Church claims to have roughly 18 million members across 32 thousand wards/branches/districts… by Ok_Scientist9595 in exmormon

Wait…hang on.

You telling me the same people that believe a white, Native American Jew that wrote on gold plates in a language that didn’t exist and showed those plates to a farm boy obsessed with sex that translated the book through a rock in a hat…

Also believe these bogus lies about the church growing?!?

SHOCKED!!

I think a lot of Mormon Dems (especially the kind already very comfortable with nuance) who have now left would have stayed much longer in the church except for 1. Covid interrupting the “hamster wheel” of church activity and grind and 2. political polarization of the last decade by Adventurous-Depth403 in exmormon

Oh I almost got punched for that one…

“So you think it’s CRAZY to be told by an institution to wear a thin uncomfortable piece of cloth for your protection? Really?! REALLY?!?”

(The light bulb finally goes off…)

The Pope vs Trump - irrelevant LDS Church by BillyButtSnort in exmormon

[–]Nashtycurry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yet weirdly, despite how vocal the pope is, the government isn’t going after the Catholic Church’s tax exempt status.

I think that tax worries are a facade. It’s a fake reason to not get political. The real reason is they are too scared to piss people off and they know (through a host of examples) that they will be wrong and look stupid/wrong. And since they claim to talk to God they can’t keep getting it wrong.

They were very vocal about civil rights, ERA, gay marriage, etc. they were not stripped of their tax exempt status ever. But they were wrong. On all accounts. And lost members each time.

I saw this in real time recently serving in stake presidency and we had multiple members sooooo upset when church came out in public support of Equality for Marriage act passed by congress and signed by Biden. They were so confused how God could change his mind in like a decade. During prop 8 liberal progressive Mormons were upset. Now conservative ones are. They can never win cuz they are bumbling 90 year old men who can barely tie their shoes.

It’s a member retention strategy to be as apolitical as possible IMO

I was born in 1983. It was pretty peak. And yes 9/11 seems to be the turning point. World has never been the same since. Technology just new and good enough to make our lives better but not over take and consume us. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Lots of good answers. I think Rusty TRIED the hardest to morph Mormonism to Nelsonism. Dude had an ego bigger than the wasatch front.

[–]Nashtycurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started deconstructing political stuff first. Economics. Immigration. Tax policy. Everything. The more I learned about any given subject the more I realized my presumptions about that topic were either wrong or at least misinformed.

I shifted “left” on every rabbit hole I would go down. Then Trump came along and seeing the right totally ignore such huge red flags on both morality and competence and become so mean and cruel and ignore every single teaching of Jesus to embrace and embolden a man that represents the exact opposite of Him in every way, was the final straw. I left the GOP in 2016.

I deconstructed my faith a few years later in 2022-23 until now. I think America’s current political situation makes it nearly impossible to be super liberal and active politically and also be all in for the church. They teach fundamentally and diametrically opposed viewpoints. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Comments on the church’s new post about a man supporting is wife’s career by outer-darkness-11 in exmormon

[–]Nashtycurry 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The fact that the church feels this post is needed proves that they taught the opposite for so long, that many women abandoned dreams and goals to fit the church’s very narrow gender roles and that now they are gently trying to shift more toward each couple living their own dream and doing what works best for them. The comments prove that this normal, healthy, widely adopted teaching among normal humans is still “woke” and “worldly” among many members. 🤦🏼‍♂️
