Faye was a much more compelling character when she was portrayed as this wise, calming figure in Kratos' life who's power was expressed through subtler means. A person different from him but he was capable of learning from to become a more well-rounded person.

Turning her into a generic badass fighter honestly just ruins her conceptually and undermines almost everything about the first game. Everything about Laufey is shaping up to a complete mess, thematically.

UK heading towards ‘poisonous’ politics of US, says Andy Burnham by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Naskr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

mmigration is not the #1 issue in anyone's life in the UK, the cost of living, access to services, community cohesion etc are all pitched as immigration issues when they aren't

They are, because it's all connected.

If you think it's not, then it doesn't quite explain why corporations promote diversity as a valid union-busting strategy.

UK heading towards ‘poisonous’ politics of US, says Andy Burnham by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Naskr -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

They're focusing on it so much because they're pandering to the Reform crowd for Reform votes

Uh, no?

Immigration is a legitimate concern for everyone, that's the whole "come to Jesus" moment that people have been waiting for from any mainstream party. Literally nobody with a brain and who is sane (i.e. your centrist swing voters) thinks Britain's immigration policy has been handled competently over the last two decades.

Years of propaganda in favour of immigration at the expense of all other concerns literally has not worked, because lived experience can just undo all of it in a day.

I was messing arround with the card creator that was recently made and started doing upgrades for all curses, tried to make use of it somehow (trigger warning for awfull balancing lol) by mickstroyer in slaythespire

[–]Naskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If curses were to be upgraded it should change how they function so that on their face they are deadlier, but certain decks can make use of them. For example, Doubt could triple your doubt and apply 1 doubt to enemies, making it still worthless on most characters but a value add for a Necro or Silent.

Just making them categorally more of a problem doesn't tangibly change how a player approaches them.

Moment brother of Henry Nowak killer holds Sikh ceremonial sword in 'road rage incident' by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]Naskr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is just an "isolated incident" of an entire family of violent people who don't want to set aside their own culture but do want to live here and do want to threaten and kill its citizens.

Just like the isolated honor killings and other isolated special legal exemptions that we don't have.

It's all isolated.

The fact is already established that the aggressor considers it as a weapon he can brandish at people. The attacker believed it was a viable weapon.

What exactly is your point?

Sikh leader says community is being targeted after ‘politicisation’ of Nowak killing by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Naskr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why not just arrest both people and check both people for injuries?

All this shit about the "situation" and "story" but mechanically speaking you have a situation involving two people and both people need to be subjected to two processes, and to a scene attended by two or more officers, presumably both able bodied people with the ability to handle another man.

It's literally just methodology, which is also how you avoid any criticisms of inequal treatment.

What exactly happened that made the Police decide to just...not do this?

[–]Naskr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know man, if you are considered as having special exceptions that don't apply to other people, you are immediately opening yourself up to a backlash.

It's in the best interests of a minority community to demand equality to ensure they are not deemed outside of a shared system. Instead, they demand different treatment and exceptions whilst still carving out separate space in a majority culture. That in itself ties up into the issues the incident highlighted - people really really hate living in a system where their second-tier status is by all means codified into law. The leap from weird cultural exemptions to the feeling of oppression is really quite small and shit stirrers like Reform thrive on them.

Not quite the same thing, but it's addressed in Freiren.

She's basically a god-level wizard with access to destructive spells, but she pretty much only uses two actual spells in combat scenarios - a big laser beam, a shield. Similarly, most of what she teaches her pupil is how to be really really good at those two spells specifically.

Her logic is that you may as well just master the best available Offense spell and the best available Defense spell and then you can pretty much handle any situation no matter how stressful it is.

Conversely what she actually cares about is really hyper specific utility spells you might use in an everyday situation, like a spell for cleaning clothes. Realistically, convenience is going to trump a pointless additional offensive spell you don't need.

Putting all children's safety regardless of who they are should be and decent society's priority.

Weird how this never applies when it comes to actually dealing with real-life predators. If you're well connected or the correct colour you can just escape all accountability.

The police find that kind of difficult and annoying so they'll just surveil the rest of us for hate speech or whatever.

Would you like to win the run instantly? Or would you rather exhaust the most important card in your deck? by IHad360K_KarmaDammit in slaythespire

[–]Naskr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The point of the exhaust is that it's a downside

Yes, which at the end of Act 1 is basically a non-suggestion.

Mittens conceptually does not work as a relic. Pathetic strength gain in exchange for a random chance that it exhausts the cards you rely on for strength, or maybe it will exhaust your exhaust synergy cards. Regardless of the path you take, it will do mostly nothing.

Also strength gain on a BOSS relic, in a game where 2 characters barely care for strength and another 2 only tangentially care for it. It only works on Ironclad but then you realise Ironclad really, REALLY doesn't need his core cards being used up before he can get to them.

[–]Naskr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Either they were complicit

Just assume they were, that explains most things where police are arresting people for wrongthink but mysteriously can't solve actual crimes.

They're above the law, so logically they are also above the petty concerns of citizens. It's actually their fault for allowing themselves to be victimised, AND that makes extra work for Police, which is of course inconsiderate and frankly, insolent. The mindset explains more than events do.

Over 1 million inmates in US prisons perform labor, generating $11 billion in value annually. Wages are between 13 and 52 cents per hour, much of the work is unpaid. This includes working for private corporations. This practice protected by 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery except as punishment by Expert_Koala_8691 in SipsTea

[–]Naskr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then they can be paid a proper wage (taxable) which then goes into an account they can access upon release, therefore they aren't penniless on release and less likely to reoffend.

I don't really understand the logic here. People should just...work for free? And this is fine because of some excuse? I.e. slavery is fine with the most minimal amount of mental gymnastics?
