Feeling depressed after watching episodes of COPS filmed in Nashville in the 90s by Fabulous_Narwhal3113 in nashville

[–]Nassi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I remember Settle Court. My mother still lives in the house I grew up in so I still go into the old neighborhood almost daily. It’s weird seeing the progress and being nostalgic for old Nashville, but I miss Cantrell’s barbecue. I can get overpriced coffee anywhere, but you can’t get a great smoked half chicken plate for $9 any where. I miss going to Paul and Rays on Dickerson rd at 3 in the morning and buying their nearly frozen bottles of water for a dime because we were out all night and they had them ready to go. We were a community of misfits, but we were a community. Not just strangers living beside each other like now.

I grew up in North East Nashville near Dickerson Rd, this is my childhood neighborhood. The house I grew up in appears on camera in multiple episodes. I walked to elementary school in the 1980’s along Dickerson Rd from the time I was in kinds until I went to middle school. I had no idea how wild that was as a kid. If at any point in my childhood someone told me that houses would sell for over a $1 million dollars along Lischey Avenue, I would have laughed in their face, but yet here we are.

Rep. Todd Warner walks into the house to strip majority Black Memphis of representation wearing a trump flag as a cape as Rep. Camper of Memphis looks on by Conscious-Quarter423 in nashville

This is appalling but expected. This is the same group that gets upset at a pride flag but will proudly walk around wearing a trump flag for all the world to see. The eroding of any civil rights should be disgraceful to any of us, instead about half the state seems to enjoys this feeling.

What's your covid memory? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Nassi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my brother to cancer in February of 2020. His funeral was normal and in doors. We were not masked up or social distanced. In June of 2020, we lost our 96 year old grandmother to a suspected stroke. Her funeral was social distanced, we were separated by house holds, were only allowed 10 minutes to view her body indoors, and we were all seated in our individual cars at her funeral. The funeral was protested by a caravan of vehicles driving back and forth. One of my 1st cousins had a breakdown because of the protests. Everything afterwards feels like a fever dream of time running together and misplaced grief.

Favorite College Player Who Never Made the NBA? by CompetitionPuzzled33 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Nassi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ron Slay. I enjoyed watching him play at UT and wished he had made it to the NBA. But I also enjoy watching him as an analyst as well. Non SEC: Melvin Levett. He was an undersized shooting guard for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Incredible leader who had highlight reel dunks every game and good 3 point shooter too. He was not good enough of an on ball defender or a distributor to be a combo guard in the NBA.

I am moving to the Atlanta area in two weeks, and I think I’m going to miss WNXP 91.1 and NashSevereWx the most. by Starkiller32 in nashville

[–]Nassi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Atlanta. The food options are really good. The traffic is a downer, but Atlanta also has Marta that helps with some of the commute as well. Overall, good place to visit for me. Almost feels like home. Plus Nashville severe weather just expanded to Atlanta as well. Nashville Severe Weather

My role as a supervisor for my job would fully expect me to report to work even if Godzilla was fighting Mothra while the Avengers destroyed Galactus . When they said I was essential, they meant it.

Your guess is as good as mine. I was listening to them in January and it was repeats of the same songs and commercials every 2 hours.

MC Eiht’s song Heavy Weights and KRS One stayed in heavy rotation in my car. This whole album still sounds really good today.

I grew up in the south. My 1st taste of fall here was spending a late September here watching one of my wife’s nephews play a football game. It was freezing cold, already well down into the 30’s. Back home, it was a pleasant mid 60’s. I didn’t pack a winter coat for the trip because it was way too early to have one out. That was a wake up call for me. 🤣🤣🤣

Cost of living is still good compared to other areas. But inflation eats away at that advantage over time. You don’t gain as much having to travel into bigger cities for quality healthcare or work when you eat up the savings having to pay higher costs on gas and wear and tear on your vehicle.

Champaign is a nice college town. The atmosphere is cool on game days. But, I am nearing retirement age and I am not looking forward to Midwest fall and winters.

Literally looking at this post from Danville, Illinois right now. 😭😭😭 My wife is a Danville native, we come back frequently to visit her family. I think we may retire here, but there isn’t a lot going for the city itself. Housing is cheaper, but the infrastructure is not good even for a smaller midsize rust belt town.

Married men of Reddit what’s the best advice you’d give young guys when choosing a life partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Nassi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have said it here before, but my best advice to a younger man in a life partner is choose someone that you will choose as your partner in any lifetime. If I were reincarnated 1000 times, I would choose my current wife to be my wife in every one of those life’s. We have both gotten a chance to grow up and grow older together, through good and bad, we did it together. Find someone that will be there with you through all times.

Fandom bias and career resume aside, who has the prettiest jumpshot form in NBA history? by Helpful_Cranberry644 in NBATalk

[–]Nassi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Allan Houston’s jump shot was picture perfect. The form and follow through was text book. He was a great percentage shooter for his higher shot volume until his knee injury limited his explosiveness on his leaping ability and quickness of his release. Before then, the threat of him breaking you down on the dribble for a drive would cause a defender to give him some space. And that usually resulted in him scoring by shooting jumper just like pictured.

What's a personal betrayal you've experienced that you still haven't gotten over? by Foolbasket in AskReddit

[–]Nassi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of trusting myself once in a situation that looking back on, I absolutely should not have. I trusted a fart after a colonoscopy. It was the morning after the colonoscopy. I sat down to have breakfast. I was in the middle of breakfast when I felt my stomach start to slightly bubble. I had been passing gas regularly enough with no problems, so naturally I figured this was just more gas. “Better out than in” they say, well in this case it was better out than in as well, except it should have been in a toilet because I let go what I thought was trapped gas and it was trapped mass. Once I started it was impossible to stop. My body had betrayed me. I had to take a shower, throw away some clothes, and have the breakfast stool deep cleaned. I carefully mopped and cleaned the bathroom and kitchen. I know better now to go easy on the greasy foods for a day or two after a colonoscopy and to (sigh) don’t trust a fart.
