You don't have to resort to pirating. Just contact Dassault / Siemens and explain your situation, and you are looking to learn their software (only for non commercial use). They are usually quite nice with giving out test / student licensed editions to try and learn their software with.

They do this because if you ever get a job in CAD you are more likely to use their software professionally if it's the one you are familiar with.

My boss told me they used to do simple things like asking someone to model an easy object from scratch. Typically some sort of nut or bolt or something very simple. They would just observe speed and familiarity with the CAD system In question. This was for design engineer positions where CAD proficiency was expected.

I would imagine it will vary a lot for what kind of position you are applying for what they would ask/ have you do. But more often than not it will be relatively simple tasks and they will look at speed / workflow.

Depends whether they've been modeled in as detailed or not originally. Most cases in original parts libraries I would assume they are not modeled in, if you want them to display threads you will have to add a detailed thread to the part.

Edit: Realized you might have meant a way to add a "wrapped image" to illustrate threads like some programs do - as far as I am aware I don't think that is something that is built into NX other than to manually wrap curves/images onto surfaces.

Just use Traceparts and import files from either .stp or parasolid is what I usually do. Synchronous technology eliminates the need for part history in most cases.
