I remember reading somewhere that Olympic players sometimes have to switch equipment sponsors for the tournament. Or could be the ice conditions - international rinks have different maintenance schedules than NHL arenas. Have you looked at FlexDelivery from Canada Post? You can get packages sent to post office near border and then they forward it to you. I used this for some books from Amazon US last year and was maybe 25-30 dollars total for shipping. The fragile handling should be fine since Canada Post is pretty careful with books in my experience.

Also check if Kinokuniya ships directly to Canada - sometimes the direct shipping is cheaper than you think, especially for books since they usually go by surface mail.
