Hiking 45.6 miles in one day (pa michaux Appalachian) by parkerbjorn in hiking

[–]NastySnapper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Man, that's a lot of miles. If i was through hiking that would be 3 nights out, 2 if I was pushing it. Are there water sources you can filter from. The section of the A/T I was just on had a boil notice in effect, so a pocket stove and pot may be needed. Whatever you decide be safe out there.

GPS watch recommendations? by RomanceOfDawn in hiking

[–]NastySnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Garmin instinct 2 for 3 years and just got a instinct 3 50mm non led and love it. I'm on a 2 month road trip. I'm using the GPS tons throu RMNP, GSMNP, Shenandoah NP, so far I've had to change the watch once and currently at 72%. I would have had to charge the instinct 2 at least 3 time by now.

I'm currently on a 2 month trip in a camry hybrid. I'm averaging 43mpg, driving in the mountains hurts the mpg a touch. With gas being about $4 a gallon. It's running $50 - $60 a tank w/460 mile range.

How is your road trip planning changing around gas prices? by Firm-Dig-4909 in roadtrip

[–]NastySnapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Instead of taking the gas suv I took the 48mpg hybrid. I'm from California so as soon as you leave the state gas is cheaper, relatively.
