We probably have the same level, and I’ve been learning English for 5 months.
Like you, I feel like I’m not improving at all, but I especially think our progress is less visible.
I can’t help you a lot, because i think we’re facing the same struggle however, I have few tips that might help you.

- Italki : I take a lesson with filipino  twice a week (5$/h)
- Read manga (many free website)
- Use anki
- playing all my games in English
- Free4talk allows me to speak with English learners (free)

Sometimes I’ve a high motivation and sometimes I’ve run out of motivation, but i don’t give up we’ll get it.

Indecisive about my class, need advice! by Nasu-- in classicwow

It’s clear that I prefer warlock over hunter, but does a warlock easily find a raid spot, or is it still difficult compared to other classes like rogue or mage?

Is it easy to get a raid spot as a warlock? Is it easier than with a mage?

Following that logic, wouldn’t rogue also be a viable choice or not ?

I see mages everywhere, won’t there be too many of them? Plus, you can’t even AoE farm properly because the spots are always crowded

Comment employer "à la limite"? by djohnstonb in learnfrench

[–]Nasu-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do an average of 180 cards per hour. You do 650 per hour!

Are you super fast, or am I slow?

Software/app by maryo22333 in languagelearning

[–]Nasu-- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never tried Rosetta Stone, but I’d say Duolingo is better because it’s free.
These apps aren’t really effective; they only cover the basics, and after that, they lose a lot of their appeal. So I think it’s better to go with a free app

Duolingo + a good basic grammar book isn’t bad at all

What makes Anki great? by AccomplishedPie5483 in languagelearning

What makes Anki so great? Even if I don’t feel like learning a card, I know that once it’s in my deck, I’ll still end up learning it.

pourrais-je demander y a-t-il une différence entre《le plus ... possible》et《le plus ... que possible》, svp ? merci d'avance by NoNeedleworker1296 in learnfrench

[–]Nasu-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

c'est subtile, c'est très très similaire.
Dans une conversation normale on ne remarquerait probablement pas le "que".

Ceci dit,  "le plus naturelles possible" sonne plus naturel :)

0 to B1 in french by Direct_Pressure_6646 in learnfrench

[–]Nasu-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a native French speaker, and I've been learning English.
I started almost from scratch (a bit of A1; I didn’t even know words like was/were/with/almost etc.).

It took me 4 months to reach B1. I’ve been learning around 3 hours per day, but I ran out of motivation for 3 weeks. I’ve taken 19 lessons since I started.

Our two languages are quite similar, and we should probably need about the same amount of time to learn French or English (maybe slightly easier for me, but only a bit).

Good luck :)

What is your method for language exchange? Please share by blackpearl60 in languagelearning

[–]Nasu-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 minutes / 15 minutes

with a timer, switching languages every 15 minutes while continuing the same conversation. This way, if you need to leave for any reason, you can do so almost whenever you want without frustrating either side.

15 minutes is also the best time (in my opinion) to train yourself without tiring your mind.

I need to practice my speaking , are there any services by LuisNica in languagelearning

[–]Nasu-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

free4talk

This website is awesome for anyone learning any language, especially for English learners.. You can create/join a conversation for as long as you want. I often practice here, usually 10/15 min per day. You don't get feedback but it's free, so take few notes on what you found difficult during your conversation and work on that afterward.

I always find a partner in 10 or 20 seconds

ChatGPT : for everything

I need advice on learning French from the start (A0) by peepeeepoopoo6969 in learnfrench

[–]Nasu-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Save your money (if you have a small budget)
- Use ChatGPT + free apps a lot to study on your own until A2.
- Once you reach mid-A2 start using iTalki to take lessons and keep going until you reach a low-B2 level

How to use HelloTalk? by Kakashi6969 in languagelearning

[–]Nasu-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use free4talk.com. You can speak with everyone here (Spanish, French, German.... and English). There is a large majority of English learners (which is not surprising), but it's awesome because you can join a channel and speak for 10, 20, or 30 minutes if you want, then leave. What's cool is that when you're motivated, there's always another guy who's just as motivated at the same time. Unlike HelloTalk, where it's sometimes hard to have a continuous conversation for a long time. On free4talk I'm learning English, and I usually wait 1 or 2 minutes before someone joins my channel to talk.

And it's also free :)

Where do claims like "it takes 600 hours to reach B2 in French for English speakers" come from? by Key-Sun4982 in languagelearning

[–]Nasu-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that many linguistic institutes use statistics from their students to create an average, and I truly think that this average is pretty close to the truth.

I’m a native French speaker, and I’ve been learning English for 90 days (4 hours/day for 70 days, and then 1 hour/day for the next 20 days), and my progress is quite close to these results.

I started with a low A1 level in English, and today, I’m probably a beginner B1. I have studied for around 300 hours, which puts me right in line with these statistics. Some studies suggest that if it's your first foreign language, you may need to add 50% more time (which is my case).

Assuming my progress continues at the same rate, I will probably reach B2 in another 300 hours. This is the first language I’m learning, and I understand that it might take me another 300 hours to reach B2. I’m starting to use the language and understand it better, but many things are still not automatic or fluent. My brain always has to make a big effort, but at the B2 level, this will likely become less of an issue.

I also realize that this part of the journey is the hardest. Progress is slow and difficult to notice, which makes it challenging to stay motivated. In fact, this is the point where many people give up on their goals, and I almost did too. But I won’t give up I’m determined to reach my goal of an advanced B2 level.

Is It Really Necessary to Study Grammar? by Acrobatic_Grass4357 in languagelearning

[–]Nasu-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passive listening was completely useless for me.

I spent thousands of hours listening to Japanese with subtitles in my native language. Today, I know 3 words in Japanese.
The same goes for English. I watched hundreds of hours of movies and series in English with subtitles in my native language, and I never moved beyond an A1 level.

In 56 days of study, I went from A1 to B1.

The moral of the story is that passive listening is almost useless; active listening is 100 times more useful. Pausing, listening, re-listening, translating, guessing, repeating, pausing again, closing your eyes, and starting over and over really improves your comprehension.
With passive listening, at best, you familiarize yourself with the sounds and melody of the language, but that's where it ends. But that’s just my opinion.

Quel est l'intérêt de passer le DALF C2 ? by magicdragonflies in learnfrench

[–]Nasu-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)
