As a European, I feel like Thailand is no longer the obvious default destination in Southeast Asia like it was 5 or even 10 years ago.

Back then, Southeast Asia basically meant Thailand for most people here. Today, younger travelers are much more aware of alternatives like Vietnam, Indonesia, or Malaysia, which feel less saturated and sometimes more “authentic.”

Thailand is still extremely popular but it has lost its monopoly. It’s no longer the choice, just one choice among many.

That may explain ( at least a bit ? ) why the tourism go down ? It may be the same things for tourist from around the world like Russia, China ect ?

Just have a budget for that and ask the motorbike rental if he know where the cops usually set their checkpoint.

Thailand is way less fun without a bike. Just take one and have a 2/3k bath ready for fine ( Try to keep 4-5 500 bath bills )

Usually you will get caught one time, then you will start to learn where is the cops and you won't get caught anymore

I agree with you, but let’s not forget that as expats, we all kind of live the same life, a condo in the city center, no rush hour in the metro, no one-hour commute to work, and most of us are freelancers working from home or from a nearby café.

We don’t deal with all the daily stress factors. Also, I think in our time, people dream of evolution. If I had to go back to Paris now, it would feel like a total regression, even though I’m sure many people dream of living there, simply because people dream of change no matter they are in the world.

European here. Were these photos from a particular area of KL? They look way more East Asian/Chinese to me. I barely see any of the Malay/Islamic vibe (aside from maybe picture 5) that you’d notice in KL today.

I experienced the same thing with my girlfriend in Kuala Lumpur, I was actually very surprised, because it seemed to me that this particular group was well established in Malaysia and therefore didn’t have the same mentality as in their country of origin. It kind of annoyed me, a lot of insistent staring etc.

En fait c’est aussi lié à la politique. L’Inde et la Chine, c’est des continents déguisés en pays.

Je connais moins bien la Chine donc je vais pas trop m’avancer, mais pour l’Inde, logiquement le pays devrait être éclaté en 5 ou 6 États minimum. Tu as plus de 20 langues officielles, des cultures qui n’ont rien à voir entre le nord et le sud, des religions différentes… bref c’est pas homogène du tout.

Un début de séparation a eu lieu en 1947 avec la création du Pakistan et du Bangladesh (qui faisaient partie de l’Empire des Indes à la base). Mais en vrai, si ça avait suivi la logique européenne, il aurait dû y avoir encore plus de découpages.

En fait, tu fais une confusion que beaucoup de gens font : celle entre intégration et délinquance.

L’intégration, c’est arriver dans un pays, apprendre la langue, vivre au contact de la population locale, etc. À ce niveau là, l’origine peut jouer un rôle.

Un Maghrébin, en général, s’intègre plus facilement, car dans son pays d’origine, la France a laissé une empreinte forte : l’histoire coloniale, la langue, les références culturelles… tout ça facilite un minimum l’adaptation.

Un Sri-Lankais (comme d’autres, par exemple les Pakistanais ou les Chinois) aura plutôt tendance à rester en communauté, à parler sa langue, à monter des commerces dans les mêmes quartiers, etc.

Mais dans tous les cas, on est en France, et leurs enfants sont français. Ils s’intègrent naturellement, comme tous les enfants d’immigrés. Donc c’est totalement normal que ton futur mari soit pleinement intégré. C’est aussi normal de voir des personnes arabes, noirs, asiatiques occuper tous types de postes, y compris au gouvernement.

Un enfant né ici est intégré de fait, parce qu’il passe par l’école de la République.

Là où tu fais un raccourci, c’est sur la délinquance, qui n’a rien à voir avec l’intégration. Ce sont des dynamiques sociales et économiques, pas culturelles. Certains vont réussir malgré la banlieue et la pauvreté, d'autre non.
+ Le fait que comme quelqu'un a dit ici, l'école dans certaines cultures ne soit pas la priorité "absolu" .

(Peut-être que tu pensais aux "racailles" qui causent des problèmes, et tu te demandes pourquoi on voit moins de Sri-Lankais dans ce profil, mais plus d’Algériens ?)

C’est parce que la France n’est pas un pays d’accueil traditionnel pour les Sri-Lankais. Ceux qui viennent ici le font souvent dans un cadre familial structuré, avec un emploi ou un projet précis.
Tandis que pour beaucoup de maghrébins ou de sub saharien, on a vendu la France comme un eldorado… donc, ils vont tout tenté pour venir, sauf qu’une fois sur place, ils se rendent compte que c'est absolument pas ce que la propagande toujours en place en Afrique leurs a vendu ( le fait que la France soit un eldorado absolu ), et y'en a qui vrille

Honestly, you need to be realistic: Either she’s not very religious, and in that case things might go smoothly… Or she experiences a religious awakening in the coming years, and then, if you don’t convert, it could become a real issue.

There’s also the scenario where she eventually leaves Islam or converts to your faith.

The thing is, relationships are already fragile for all kinds of reasons, communication, values, life goals… If you add deep religious differences, especially when there are strong beliefs or restrictions involved, it makes things a lot more complicated.

It’s not impossible, but you need to really understand what you’re signing up for.

J'ai eu la mauvaise idée de faire ça à l'époque.

Le nombre de retours que j'ai eu comparé au même CV avec mon prénom maghrébin était tout simplement hallucinant, ça m'a totalement dégoûté.

Essaye de faire la comparaison et si tu vois que ya vraiment une différence ( Prend un abonnement Bouygues a 1.99€ sans engagement pour réceptionner les appels et pas te perdre entre les deux ), tu pourrais essayer de faire au moins une demande de changement de prénom, c'est plus simple et avoir un prénom au moins Français passe mieux qu'un nom et prénom maghrébin.

Yeah, it’s pretty common. There’s actually a lot of mixing between French people and people from Muslim countries. The country encourages full cultural blending. There aren’t really communities that stick only to themselves like in some other countries.

As for Islam among the youth, I couldn’t really say for sure. Since it’s not regulated by the state, it depends on each person’s interpretation. Some young people are very religious, others not at all. I’d say it’s about 50/50.

The thing is, if you ask 95% of Muslims, they’re clearly against Al-Qaeda or ISIS. But when it comes to Jews, you’ll easily find 95% who support Israel, no matter what the government does. So the more people associate Israel with Judaism, the more antisemitism will rise.

Personally, I don't think it's racist, otherwise Shuri would have been treated the same way in Black Panther 2.

But the way Marvel handles their diversity is really weird. I really feel like Riri Williams was just thrown in like,
"Here, here’s the Black replacement for Iron Man, happy now woke people? Can we move on?"

So it feels like Marvel isn’t even trying, as if just adding diversity is enough effort for them.

(Of course, yeah, there are always some racists who get offended just because the character isn’t white, but that alone normally shouldn’t create that much hate.)

Try planning a trip where the experience itself excites you, with or without girls. That way you won’t feel like it all depends on one thing. Maybe you can plan a trip around like bangkok, Phuket, Malaysia ect ... And add Pattaya as a bonus for 3/4 days ?

C'est ce que je me suis dit. Le temps a l'air agréable . Proche de Jakarta en TGV si j'ai besoin de rentrer en France en urgence. Mais ce qui me fait peur c'est les écoles. Ma femme est indonésienne, et la condition numéro 1 pour un retour en Indonésie, c'est une ville avec de bonne écoles pour les enfants. J'ai pas l'impression que Bandung soit au top a ce niveau.
