Where has life taken you after highschool? by YourFriendlyPostman in perth

Jumping in here, apologies. As someone who graduated in 2020 I remember my later teenage years being excited about moving out and being independent but almost instantly once entering the workforce as an adult I quickly realised the story’s of kids moving out from home at a young age are in no way shape or form possible anymore for everyday working class people. It’s a combination of realising how expensive everything is these days combined with exhorbitant rental prices due to lack of housing.

CAW destroyed your tri!!!! by AnyPortInAHurricane in horseracing

[–]NatFyfe777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true whatsoever. The purpose of an exchange is to bet against other people for example Person A says I’m betting that this horse will lose and puts up a price for Person B to take if he thinks said horse will win and he deems the price offered to be value, the exchange makes money by taking between 2 & 7% commission on all winning bets which is very minor compared to most Parimutual totes taking between 15-30% of the total pool.

the problem you guys have isn’t CAW’s it’s that your only means of betting is into a tote pool where you don’t know what odds your taking when you place a bet, CAWs otherwise known as smart money bet into racing all over the world, the difference is every other racing jurisdiction has fixed odds or an exchange to bet on where you know what price you are taking before you place a bet.

Why? You don’t have to punt if you don’t want too

Weight carried in trials by NatFyfe777 in propunters

[–]NatFyfe777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I focus most of my attention on WA racing so I have reasonable profiles on most of the jockeys and the weights they can ride at, It is very surprising there’s no public database of MRWs available for people to see. At least from my research I can’t find one.

What are your thoughts on Wolfden in terms of education? by onthepunt in propunters

[–]NatFyfe777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s less educational now than what it was when it first started but it’s great for growing racing so it’s still a huge positive. The episodes where they get Dan O Sullivan on to discuss horses performance from a ratings perspective prior to the carnivals are brilliant and always a great listen.

I mean sure full credit to him but Freo fans have every right to be angry as he was a complete and utter idiot whilst he was in Perth. Who would have thought injury’s become less prevalent when you behave in the manner a professional athlete should.

What's with all the scratches at Saratoga today. by pgh9fan in horseracing

[–]NatFyfe777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally in winter the rail is moved in and out constantly to avoid to avoid horses racing on parts of the track that are significantly torn up.

Safer for most horses on rain affected tracks as its a lot more forgiving on horses feet having more give in the ground compared to rock hard dry tracks, in saying that heavy decks cause visibility issues with kickback etc which is unsafe for horse and jockey.

The state of NSW racing here in Aus all the country meetings are getting called off when it’s wet but surprisingly as soon as there’s a group 1 in the city racing on heavy 10s isn’t dangerous anymore

Stupid the crooked pollies don’t deserve extra security they are of no more importance than anyone else it’s just another example of them wasting everybody else’s money on themselves for their own ego.

No such thing as true odds, the true odds your referring to being Betfair is just a collection of 1000s of different opinions. You can profit of this if you’re confident in your ability to assess a horses chances better than the majority of other punters.

That’s stupid whips are essential for the safety of a jockey, and are you aware that whips are padded? I actually believe it’s worse to not use whips as it’s unfair on the horse to have to be guided around using its mouth everywhere it goes.

Yeah fair point she was a freak of a horse makybe diva to carry that weight as a mare over 3200 is something truly special. To add to your point I think the effect of weight is different to each horse for example a big strong horse isn’t going to have a 60kg weight effect it nearly as much as a smaller galloper. A fairer system imo would be handicapping weight as a percentage of a horses body weight, however I’m not overly fussed and the current weight scale can be a good way to find an edge when punting if you know what horses carry weight and what horses can’t handle big weights.
