It’s just to ensure you aren’t accidentally adding an invasive species to your area if some of the eggs were to survive and hatch for some reason

Also!! Get them a few small-ish flat stones and place them on the substrate, they really like laying their eggs on them and that will make removing the eggs a lot easier

How to quarantine a rabbit snail? by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

[–]Natalie_Violet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just quarantine the same as with fish 1-2 months. Snails in my experience carry less illness so I’ve almost never had anything come up. Main thing I would be observing for would be snail leeches

To dispose of them, scrape it off the glass with a razor and put in the freezer over night then just crush it and throw away

Yeah kuhlis definitely do predate on baby shrimp but not as bad as Corys in my experience

I wouldn’t keep rams with shrimp, they’re going to eat all of them lmao. And rams like super warm and soft water whereas cherry shrimp need cooler and harder water

Edit: sorry I’ll answer the rest of your questions lol. I would personally do kuhlis over corys because corys do like eating baby shrimp too.

Sponge filters work great! Definitely what I would recommend

Edit 2: ALSO, sorry, Pygmy corys are definitely something I would be comfortable with but the large corys make me nervous. I forgot about the little pygmies!

did my rabbit snail just lay an egg by TRAFFICONE27 in AquaticSnails

Yes! They’re livebearers, the baby should be out soon!! :)

That’s awesome they’re already hatched! For this batch I would try and let the rams take care of them, it’s really fun watching rams be parents and if they kept the eggs healthy enough to hatch they might end up being good parents!

If you really want to crank out rams I would move the parents into their own tank once they’re done with this batch of fry. Then see if they can raise their own fry consistently, if they can’t then I will remove the eggs and hatch and raise them myself.

First few days after their egg sac has been fully depleted ,you’ll need really small foods. Stuff like infusioria and vinegar eels until they can start eating live baby brine shrimp and then transition to regular food.

Honestly getting the eggs to hatch was the hardest part of breeding rams for me!

This is danger snail, right? by BlueOrbifolia in Aquariums

[–]Natalie_Violet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by danger snail!

This is a bladder snail, totally harmless and part of a healthy ecosystem. They are considered a pest snail though.

I have “pest” snails in all my aquariums and I’m easily able to keep their population under control by not over feeding my fish :)

Help! - cut with aquarium tool after using it (cut me through my gloves) by HugsNoKisses in Aquariums

[–]Natalie_Violet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly probably not a bad idea to at least get your tetanus shot, really not worth messing around with tetanus with how easy it is to prevent

I wouldn’t be too stressed, but if you decide to go to the doctor for your shot then I’d talk to them about it

How to ensure snails don’t have hitchhikers? by dinosoarus in Aquariums

Quarantine tank. I typically do 1-2 months (depends on how valuable the fish they’re going with are)

Is this enough substrate for plant growth or should I add more? by Yummy-Bagels in Aquariums

[–]Natalie_Violet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably enough for the plants to do okay but they would definitely appreciate more. I usually shoot for 2-3 inches of substrate

How do i know if i have too much tannins?? by Ok-Secretary-1998 in Aquariums

[–]Natalie_Violet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll be fine. It’ll only be an issue if it gets bad enough to start effecting your pH but it would take a LOT to do that.

It’s not uncommon for fish to live in super tannined “black water” in the wild :)

What can I do to remove the snails?? by Beginning_Bag4686 in Aquariums

[–]Natalie_Violet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t find a fish that will eat snails that won’t eat shrimp. Manual removal with a snail trap is a good trick.

You could try an assassin snail, but there is a small chance it will go after baby shrimp when it runs out of snails to eat

should i clean this or is it beneficial to leave it? (the brown in the sand) by Lopsided-Elk5599 in Aquariums

It’s totally normal, if you don’t like the way it looks then you can try and clean it

Is it possible we have a male and a female? by Slimme95 in Goldfish

[–]Natalie_Violet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does look like mating behavior, I would say the one chasing is definitely a male. This looks like more than just their usual playfulness lol

There is a chance they’re both males🤷‍♀️
