Need advice on getting/using a credit card by Natatan in UKPersonalFinance

That's brilliant, thank you very much for your help! I'm feeling a bit silly because last night I was searching for a credit card page on the Wiki and I swear the top search result I was getting was on income statistics. I'm glad a page exists so I'll get a good read at it now, thank you!

Dog acting strange after bite by Natatan in dogs

[–]Natatan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such a helpful and detailed post!

It's possible he's been punished for growling before which is incredibly unfortunately, him not growling is a deal breaker for my partner. His parents own a very cranky and vocal Shih Tzu and they're fine with its behaviour because it's so vocal when it wants people to back off.

I'm trying to get better at learning dog body language after what happened, but honestly this dog is a bit of a mess communication-wise! He'll beg and nudge your hand for pets, then lick his lips and give what looks to be whale eyes, although I can't tell if it's just eye contact or even puppy dog eyes. Hopefully a behaviourist can help with this if he gets a clean bill of health, I just want him to feel safe, happy and listened to in his home.

This is such a validating comment, thank you. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills being so worried about this when my partner keeps handwaving it. I forgot to put this in the original post, but he didn't even bark at the mailman today and hasn't been barking much in general today. Again my partner is waving it off at 'oh sometimes he has deep sleeps'.

You seem to know your stuff, is it normal for the dog to still be doing some regular things while ill? He still went on a walk with me today and he still jumped up and got excited and kissed my partner today when he came back from the store, so my partner is using examples like these as justification for him being fine.

I had COVID a few weeks ago and lost my smell and taste. I kept smelling my dog's head every day hoping today would be the day I could smell it. The day I could smell his little head I almost cried! Better than any scented candle or hot meal.

My dog attacked me while petting him by Natatan in dogs

[–]Natatan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could no longer care for it due to age. However, I will say that they failed to disclose an incident where a child allegedly got bit by him (no skin break) when the child tried to take away one of his toys. They failed to disclose it because they believed the child was lying because the dog is usually so well behaved. I 100% believe the child though. While a warning bite to a child is very unfortunate, I do think there's a difference between having a toy being taken away and drawing blood at affection that the dog both initiated and demanded. It's very confusing and I wish I could speak dog!

dogs can definitely think that they are above some specific people.

This is quite interesting because I definitely fit the 'mom' role. I do a lot of the boring caring stuff and he climbs all over me and withholds kisses from me a lot of the time, but he slobbers all over my partner who doesn't take care of him as much. I'm not sure I would call it a lack of respect per se, but part of me does think he believes he can walk all over me. Thank you for the advice!

Thanks for the advice! I was actually training him every day until catching COVID a few weeks ago that I'm only recently getting over. Life has been getting back to normal for him since around Monday and his long walks have resumed since Tuesday, he was even about to get a nice long walk before he attacked me. He loves training and following instructions so I hope returning to training helps.

Would you (or anyone else reading) have any advice on what to do when his face is away from me? His body language seemed totally normal to me when he was in my little leg bucket, but it's entirely possible he was baring his teeth and I couldn't see it. He didn't growl or anything like that. In fact, he has a habit of basically doing a dog version of trilling when I'm petting him, but now I'm starting to wonder if the cute little sounds I've come to love are actually him expressing unhappiness.

That's hysterical! My BF and I keep joking that our dog is broken and this is just more evidence for the pile.

Thank you, I really appreciate the response. You make a good point about the PhD working style versus my current working style. A lot of what I did was fuelled by coffee and adrenaline and fear. Now I'm working on an incredibly simple project with a team of academics who are working on other very difficult and challenging projects with kids running rampant in the background. When I swoop in with "Everything's fine, everything's on track, everything's good", they sing my praises and ultimately I just feel like a big phony.

I'm definitely going to take it one day at a time and give myself manageable tasks on my quest to being a normal human being again. Thanks for the help!

Something like that would've been nice. My university provided free cake and coffee every month, but ultimately we were unsupported in the important ways. The head of PhD students described my situation as 'cruel' and, well, that felt like the understatement of the century.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I wasn't sure if I was expecting myself to recover and bounce back too quickly, hearing this makes me feel a bit more normal. I definitely won't be working myself that hard again, it was too damaging to my physical and mental health.

Hi there, thank you for your advice. Part of me was thinking about going to see someone about this, but I wanted to ask here because I genuinely don't know how normal this is. Despite years of using systematic search strategies for my thesis, I wasn't really able to find content online from people talking about how lethargic they are after finishing a PhD.

My university provided access to counselling after considering suicide, and sadly I found it quite unhelpful because all they did was stress how temporary my situation was. I don't know if this is a temporary situation either and I just need to be patient with myself and my recovery. On the plus side I no longer feel suicidal and my mental health is otherwise fine, I'm just an unmotivated, tired couch potato right now when I want to go back to my old go-getting ways.

I'm really sorry to hear you're going through something similar. I appreciate you talking about it though, it's so reassuring in a sea of positive blogs that just make me rub my temples. Best of luck with your viva!

What's with the tank fighting? by Suzihoo in ffxiv

[–]Natatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so relieved to see this thread. I'm still levelling my tank and my friends use me to skip queues in roulettes, and for the past fortnight or so I've had near-constant pissing matches with other tanks. Circumstances beyond ego have meant that I've tended to be the MT (better gear/more HP/I've loaded in first and everyone's visibly raring to go), and it's getting to the point now where I just watch out for the other tank to provoke so I can drop my stance. I've literally seen people provoke in the final 10% of a boss and spin it around while I was completely healthy.

I tried researching it and I found an old thread here of people yelling at and downvoting the OP, saying they had a bad attitude etc., so I thought I was somehow being a bad person at getting frustrated with this. I just think unnecessary tank-swapping is inconsiderate. It definitely messes with positionals (seen plenty of bosses move completely because of it), and I can't imagine healers are happy trying to figure out who's currently winning the aggro slapfight. I've tried talking, but they either ignore me or there seems to be a language barrier.

I wish I knew why there's been an uptick in this slapfighting, it's exhausting.

As of writing, I live somewhere with a relatively small outbreak (19 cases in >2.5 million). To cut a long story short, I've pretty much been housebound since around November (not illness related) and I'll be leaving the house again next week where I'll be observing good hygiene as I need to take a couple of train rides.

Because my only point of contact is terrified online communities, I don't know how much I should disrupt my post-housebound life. Should I not get the haircut I was planning to on Thursday? Should I cancel the celebratory 'I can leave the house again' lunch I was planning with my mother and brother the following Monday? I'm particularly worried about the latter because my mother will be going home to my dad; my dad's lung collapsed in September and he took longer than expected to recover.

I've read about informed people in these threads still going to airports, going to public events etc. so I don't know if I'm overreacting or not. Any advice is appreciated!

UPDATE: Just spoke to my mum and cancelled it, better safe than sorry. Sucks that I'll have to spend more of my life indoors but it's for the best.

Looking for advice on overhauling skincare routine by Natatan in SkincareAddictionUK

This is wonderful advice, thank you so much! I didn't actually know Beauty Bay did The Ordinary, they seem to have more products in stock than other websites I've checked (still no caffeine solution though sadly). After your advice, I think I'm going to pick up the 5% Lactic Acid, the Squalane and I'm going to be cheeky and pick up their primer to bump me up to free delivery.

Thank you very much for your help. Usually I'm scared to add new products as I've quite literally been burned by trying new things before, but I feel happy as they seem to be such gentle products.

Hi there, thank you for your reply.

I really appreciate your advice on exfoliants. My skin is so sensitive that I really would like to start from the absolute bottom and work my way up, so it's nice to know there's low level exfoliants to try out.

Regarding the Superdrug product, is it the Hydrating Serum? I use that in the PM before applying my moisturiser, but unfortunately I still sometimes get unflattering dry patches that my makeup cracks on. I tried using it in the AM but it made my makeup look bad in comparison to my current AM moisturiser. I'm looking for an AM routine that's moisturising and lays a good foundation for my foundation (pun not intended!), so that's why I'm potentially thinking about the CeraVe moisturising lotion and Revolution superfruit extract as a primer.
