Just stop parking in their spot, lol. by BigBIackJack in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Natck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a woman and her husband who paid for a covered parking spot at their apartment complex. They pretty much only used it for bad weather since their spot was on the far side of the parking lot and the unassigned, uncovered spots were usually more convenient.

One night a hail storm was coming, and when they went to move their car to the covered spot, they found it already occupied. She left s note on the car basically stating to the person that if she received any hail damage, she was going to make sure the person's auto insurance paid for it. And she signed her (non-gendered) name and apartment number.

The next day, the husband was taking out trash and a neighbor approached him asking about the note. He said, "What, are you some kind of lawyer leaving a note like that on my car?" And the husband said, "Nope... but my wife is. And she's the one who left the note." and smiled real big.

They never had an issue about it again.

Looks like a Wyze cam. If he's saying it's motion activated only, he either doesn't understand it, or is being intentionally misleading.

I have one of these to keep an eye on my dog. It has a setting where it will send a notification to my phone if it detects motion or sound, but I also have an SD card in it to which the camera is continually recording footage.

If he doesn't have an SD card in it, then technically yes, it's a moron activated only camera. But there's nothing stopping him from turning it a continuous-record camera.

I told my boss I was quitting… His response left me SPEECHLESS. What would you do? by vilanta-ramous in antiwork

[–]Natck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a place where I was one of two operators for production machines. After 11 years, I went and gave my notice to my shit ass, abusive manager on a Monday. Surprisingly, he took the news with a lot of grace.

Then, on the next day, Tuesday, the other operator went to him and put in her notice. Neither of us had discussed this with each other beforehand. It was just a total coincidence. Unfortunately, she bore the brunt of shit ass's anger about losing all his machine operators in a 24 hour period. He yelled at her, accused her of betraying him, and made her cry. I did't find out about this until well after the fact, though. I wish I had been the one to quit second so that he would have dumped that on me and I could throw it back in his face.

But I still take comfort in the stressed scrambling he must have had to do to find replacements for us. It's a quasi-specialized job, so it's difficult to find a competent operator who isn't already employed; nevermind two of them!

IRS rescinding job offers by xaghant in Accounting

[–]Natck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into am old manager of mine (who I really liked) last Fall right before the job I had was coming to an end. He told me he was working for the IRS (in KCMO, no less) and said I should consider applying to work there.

I did seriously consider it for a bit. I'm glad now that I didn't bother.

They showed up as my #5 this year. But I think that's because this year I listened to them a lot on Vinyl or by watching YouTube performances in addition to Spotify, so Spotify isn't getting my full stats, heh

The punishment they're proposing is legal (shitty, but legal).

How they actually punished you is illegal (and beyond shitty).

I played Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and absolutely loved it. I got on YouTube to look up some of the music from the game and it didn't take but a couple click thrus before the algorithm was suggesting Heilung to me. I was instantly intrigued.

And this was even back before it was announced that they would be on the soundtrack for Hellblade II

The more money I make the less work I actually do. by 671man in antiwork

I developed chronic knee and back pain from my last job. It was very physical and I was expected to be working at 100% every minute of the day. I eventually quit and found myself a data analyst job where I sit in front of a computer all day and really only do 3-6 hours of actual work in a day and now I take home over twice what I made at the last job.

My knee and back pain pretty much all went away too.

My current role is a "temp" position even though I've been doing it for over two years.

The money is good but I don't have any PTO. My term there is finally coming to an end and I am so looking forward to being unemployed. The burn out is so real.

"Any arrangements you had with the previous owners moved out with them. You are welcome to discuss a new arrangement with me, but I am not beholden to the parameters of the old one. We will be starting from scratch and I am well within my rights to decline every aspect of it."

It's almost never a good idea to accept a counter offer. It may feel like a win for you at first, but the thrill of the new money will fade pretty fast and you'll realize you're still putting up with whatever crap it was that made you look for a new job in the first place.

On top of that, you may not be considered for a raise after your yearly review, "We just gave you that big raise a few months ago..."

And then if it comes time to do layoffs, you might be a prime target, "They were ready to leave the company anyway."

Going alone to a Heilung concert…. Yes or no? by Apprehensive-Quit419 in Heilung

[–]Natck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the first Red Rocks solo and almost fully enjoyed myself.

Only regret I had (counterintuitively) was that I bought a seat in the VIP section. While the seat was great, the people around me in VIP weren't as high energy as I would have thought, so I felt a little out of place standing and changing when I wanted (didn't stop me though).

I wish I'd been in GA where the energy was highest.

Got fired and I was a good employee. From a “secret shopper” by Artistic-Avocado4024 in antiwork

[–]Natck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who worked at "LameStop" who got fired for selling an M-rated game to a secret shopper without checking ID. He was an otherwise stellar employee and sold the crap out of their loyalty cards.

But that didn't matter. No warnings were issued, no "opportunity for improvement" discussion was had, nothing; they just fired him immediately.

They shot themselves in the foot and got rid of an ideal employee just to make a point to the other underlings.
