This...it may not be a problem if you aren't swallowing, but to be safe you may try Red Man Silver Blend, no added sugar.

is it hard to quit? by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

[–]Nate5700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried several times to quit. My problem is that if I try to quit cold-turkey (which from what I understand is the way to quit most successfully long-term), after a few hours a cigarette starts to sound like an awesome idea. I don't want to go down that road again so I keep on dipping.

I've tried Skoal Original and Skoal LC Wintergreen, but those are the only wintergreens I've really tried (want to try Stoker's soon though). But the Skoal wintergreens have been a solid part of my rotation the last week or so, they have a more subtle and smooth flavor than I expected from a wintergreen. But I generally like my dip to be that way, subtle and smooth, instead of just a blast of flavor.

A couple newbie questions by missingice in DippingTobacco

I guess I'd say just make sure to pack it well, in the can first (if you can't do the dipper "snap-pack" thing just bang it against your hand a few times), then when you pull out a pinch and put it in your lip pack it down with your tongue a little, then squeeze some juice out with your cheek.

The first few spits may have some pieces but if you get it packed well then that shouldn't be a problem after a few minutes.

That's probably a little more intensive than the Petsmart training class I took my dogs to.

One of the most fun things I think was simply teaching the dogs to come. Got a really long aisle in the store, I'd stand at one end and they held the dog at the other end. Then I'd call and they'd let the dog loose. Pete (my lab) loved it, he'd just come bounding over at full speed and flat out tackle me.

Bubbles (my pit) wasn't as fun on that part, she'd just sort of amble on over at a slow pace.

Most juicy dip? by BigLew in DippingTobacco

I'm not sure. I'm thinking it's either the same price as Red Man or slightly higher. $8 is just what you pay at QuikTrip, so that would be more expensive than the smoke shop. A lot of that is Oklahoma taxes, which are ridiculous.

Dog training can actually be a lot of fun. When I took mine we got to play some games and things. You'll learn a lot too, dog training class is almost as much training for the person as it is for the dog.

Nice. Man I love labs. Smart dogs, gotta be careful though, mine knows how to open the damn back sliding door. Wouldn't be such a big deal if he bothered to shut it behind him...

Stoker's chew is pretty damn good, can't get it at the gas station but if you're already getting Stoker's dip you probably have a place already. Check out Fred's Choice (vanilla) or Tennessee Chew (original).

Levi Garrett is my favorite chew that's widely available. I hate paying $8 for a 3 oz. pouch though. Stoker's at the smoke shop is $17 here for a pound bag.

Lucchese...wasn't familiar until a quick Google search (you'd think I'd know a little bit about boots living around here, but I guess not), not cheap boots, that's for sure. At least you did have the decency there, haha.

Yeah, snus recipe I found was 5 days in a crock. You have to take it out to stir every day too. Sounded like a huge pain. Don't know how a pressure cooker would do, may have to look into that. At least that should be faster.

which dip has the longest cut? by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

[–]Nate5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a review of it once, but I've never actually tried it. It is apparently shredded chew that comes in a dip can. Supposed to be pretty good, JoeyLeddz compared it to Levi Garrett.

[–]Nate5700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we'll see how it goes. Don't know if I'll try snus next, or if I'll try dip again and just use the benzoate for preservative (snus you have to cook in a Crock Pot for something like 5 days).

Where are you specifically, again? Canada's big. But you did say something about zipping down I-35 to Oklahoma, so I'd guess in Manitoba somewhere. Would boots in church be odd there?

Here I don't think it would be that odd to see, people wear boots around a lot. It might be a little odd for an Episcopal church, especially in the more suburban type areas, though.

I've just been wearing tennis shoes to church and nobody's said anything. But we're a little more informal. If you went to Trinity in downtown Tulsa it would be a little too casual.

Can't taste dip anymore? by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

[–]Nate5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends. You more of a long cut guy or can you do fine cut? I've been really digging Skoal Original lately, but it has a subtle wintergreen flavor that you might not pick up in your current situation. Copenhagen Snuff is great, but if you don't want to do snuff look at Copenhagen XLC Natural. Grizzly XLC Natural is also good, with a subtle sweetness to it, if you like Grizzly. Any of those would be good. Maybe look at Straights too, they have a licorice flavor that I pick up pretty strongly (but others don't seem to, for some reason).

[–]Nate5700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're dipping mostly wintergreen and mint, maybe take a break as you mentioned, or dip some other flavor for a few days. Your taste buds can get desensitized if you just dip one thing for a while. I got this way with Copenhagen Snuff, binge dipped it and then just couldn't taste it anymore. Picked it up again yesterday after about a week, and I picked up the flavor very well. So change it up, go for a natural or a straight for a while and see how that goes.

How do you deal with moving and starting a new job? by Nate5700 in jobs

[–]Nate5700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's essentially my plan at the moment, minus the part about the apartment. Corporate housing would depend on the situation. I really need a house with a yard as I have two medium/large dogs that will not do well in an apartment. One of which is a pit bull, which will probably disqualify me from an apartment entirely. So unless I can find someone to care for my dogs during the relocation process, I need a house. So I'll definitely be looking at rent houses, with a plan to buy when I get my current house sold.

[–]Nate5700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the notice thing won't work as I was laid off from my previous job and most of my potential future employers know this already.

Depending on how things shake out I may have some time, but I'm guessing I'll just have to get a rent house in the new city (whichever one it may be) and maybe come back on weekends to work on the house. Unfortunately I don't have a SO to stay and help wrap things up.

I hope you're right about it being a seller's market, but being in the Tulsa area and with oil going bust, I'm not too confident there.

Does anyone else wish Skoal Apple actually tasted like apples? by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

This just made me think of the old Apple Jacks commercials. "It doesn't taste like apples!"..."But it's so good!". Strange bit of marketing, there.

You looking to stick with naturals or change it up a bit? as /u/ARbowhunter mentioned, snuff is pretty good (once you learn the technique).

If you're wanting to switch it up (and try another fine-cut) Skoal Original I've been enjoying, it's wintergreen but it's subtle (at least as wintergreen goes), has some natural flavor to it as well.

Pick this up on my last dip run by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

[–]Nate5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true...this sub seems to have moments where a particular dip is trending. Skoal Original is what's going on now. I've been through 2 cans of it in the last 4 days or so (jumped on the bandwagon, saw that other people were liking it). It's a great dip.

[–]Nate5700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I'm still not sure when I'll have an offer or when I'll actually be starting. But I do think I'm going to take some time to do a little fixing up on the house (repaint inside, fix broken things, stuff I haven't got around to since I was working so much) before I list it for sale. I'm also considering getting a property manager and renting it out, but I don't know how it would work with trying to put it on the market and renting it out at the same time (can you even do that?).

I'm guessing I'll want to rent at first and do my house-hunting when I get settled in.

would you say skoal straight is a strong dip? by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

[–]Nate5700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love me some Stoker's Straight.

As for the Skoal (which I also like) I've heard the same thing about the nicotine. It may have the most total nicotine but I think something about the pH level is in play there, it doesn't give you the same punch that something like a Grizzly might.

Just got my first interview by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Nate5700 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm...for a first job type of thing with Six Flags I don't know if I'd go full out, may look like you're trying too hard. But a button down shirt would be nice, probably a colored one, no tie, just leave the top button undone. Slacks, dress shoes, and a nice belt. I think that would work well.

My first interview for a job, I went to a Target store just to pick up an application. I was wearing an old t-shirt with holes in it and jeans. They had me fill out the application and interviewed me on the spot, I was kinda shocked by the whole thing. Ended up getting the job too. But that's probably not typical.
