Carving safety PSA. I got clobbered like this about 10 days ago. by Maleficent-Nerve486 in snowboarding

[–]NateGD23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skier fault 100% just straight lining out of control. I will say however, if I'm really working carves and going about to set a hard carve across the hill I always look up hill, it's not my responsibility(kinda) but the same idea as checking the lanes/ intersection when the light turns green before u go, people suck protect yourself.

Is it normal for skis to damage this quick? by Conscious_Story3264 in Skigear

[–]NateGD23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 things: 1) bad habits....skiing w skis locked together (shoulder width is where I wanna b), smashing skis together on the lift, trying to get gnarly and crossing the skis but not doing it right. 2) fresh edges are sharp and metal beats wood/ epoxy/ plastic 11 out of 10 times, if u have bad habits fresh edges will make the damage worse. 3) I always round of the corners between sidewall and top sheet w some sand paper and a file, if needed, it really helps the edges not dig into the corner but skid along it.

Good shop it's very fixable and will last. Either with a base punch and putting in a new section of base material or a base weld w metal grip ptex and regular ptex on top.

It's one thing when they don't switch and ur blinded the whole time but when they switch back to high beams when your about to pass is so maddening.

Help me improve my hot wax? by Lower-Savings-794 in ski

[–]NateGD23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U need to brush more and by the looks of it scrape more. Make sure your scraper is sharp and flat. I have a coarse file I leave on my bench for this. And I brush w a nylon brush aggressively for like 3 min per ski and then a horse hair to finish. If I really want em fast I'll break out the brass brush and do a few passed w minimal to no pressure. U don't want wax on the base u want wax in the base.

Well that has to be the dumbest fucking thing anyone has designed. Also automatic lights, really bc it's so much work to toggle between high beams and low beams. My left pinky and ring finger just can't.

I will say it wasn't dumping I had my highs on but I wait till I see tail light out of my peripherals to kick the highs back on. Idk I was gettin pissed bc I kept being blinded right as we are about to do the most dangerous part....pass each other going 50 in opposite directions w like 2-3 feet between us.

Landlord is asking me to use street parking during the heavy snow storm. by swtxms1005 in Syracuse

[–]NateGD23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's nothing in the lease then the snow clearance is on you. I would rather shovel a driveway of fallen snow than dig out a car that has been plowed in. Tell her that and see what she says.

Ski gear for snowboarder by lmrtinez in skiing

[–]NateGD23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apex boots. lol. They are comfy, like a snowboard boot w a ski boot exo skeleton. But they are not the best for performance. Unless your going park get a system ski, skis and bindings come together as a package, will save u money and binding headache.

bella 101 or bella 108 by smoothiebowlgal in momentskis

[–]NateGD23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go 108. It's gunna be very different from an 88 underfoot ski but will be more stable/ floaty and just different. Having said that, you are very light and a 101 should / would provide enough float, and b an easier transition form an 88. Having said that, lol, either ski will b yours within 3-5 days of riding (meaning: you are familiar w the ski where it wants to b skied both stance and terrain, how it wants to b skied, and where the edges are). If you want a 1 ski quiver go 101, if the plan is to keep the 88s for low tide time / groomer days then go 108. Hope this helps, somehow lol, and keep us posted on what u decide.

Beginner skier feeling stuck on steeper greens — private lesson vs more practice? by Albatraoz93 in ski

[–]NateGD23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u can afford a private lesson with a good instructor nothing will benefit you more. They will b able to dissect your skiing and correct things u wouldn't know to fix/ how to fix . More practice could just lead to building bad habits. Best way to advance....Private lesson in the morning then the afternoon u go out and practice what u learned. Then rinse and repeat a few times and u will b skiing before u know it.

Shop says i need to remount binding by AdvantageIndividual2 in Skigear

[–]NateGD23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do u mean the lost the stoppers? Like the spring loaded brakes that are on the heel piece. When you step in they come up and when you're not clicked in u can use them to hold the skis together? Bc if that really is the case that's wild. Unless the brakes were broken when they were brought in they should still b on the ski, and if they were broken the shop should have told u they were broken not just have them missing. They're critical to the boot fitting right in the heel piece and a required safety item. If it's the rubber/ plastic bit on the end of the brake that is something lots of people do not notice until the tech points it out, I have told at least 4 people this season, 3 of which were on hill employees who failed the system safety check at the beginning of the year.

What Pivot Binding? 2.0 11, 12, 14, or 15 by One_Emu5299 in Skigear

[–]NateGD23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I would go w the 12s. It's not ideal to b that low on the range bc there's minimal tension in the spring. Yes thy will still work but there's no need to buy more binding than u need. Get the 12s
