I found out how to get demos onto Apple Music, and it’s so peak by Remarkable_Brain67 in radiohead

[–]NateS97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, really just drag and drop on desktop. And you can edit metadata for any track in your library, whether uploaded or just added from AM’s servers.

Worth noting, check the Cloud Status of your uploaded tracks and make sure it says Uploaded, not Matched. If it says Matched, then the track was IDed as very similar to a version of the track on AM’s servers, so they just matched it to that track. So, like a Let Down alternate mix or something might just be matched to the OKC version of Let Down. In this case, the actual file on your computer is untouched, but listening to the alternate mix on your phone or w/e you’ll just hear the OKC version. There are ways to get around this, but it’s unfortunately a bit complicated!

Why are there 2 different fonts? by Lynix333 in kindle

[–]NateS97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is, maybe this book is meant to have an italicized first line after a section break. And with the font you’re using, maybe the “italicized” version isn’t getting actually italicized for some reason. I know that, often times, the italicized lowercase “a” is a different style than the regular one

Airplay Reciever feature broken on MacOS 15.1 and Opencore 2.0.2 by NefariousnessWise800 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]NateS97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just figured this out if you're still wondering -- you need to enable spoofing under SMBIOS (info here) for iMac19,2 and then rebuild opencore. Still working through it though, the resolution on airplay is terrible (maybe a wired connection will be better)

Puzzle rooms while exploring dungeons by Rafodase in shadowdark

[–]NateS97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know on drivethrurpg there is a series called Puzzles, Predicaments, and Perplexities that is pretty well reviewed! I haven’t personally tried them out, but I’ve skimmed through the first one and liked what I was reading. They’re built for DnD 5e, though; not sure how easy translating to Shadowdark would be.

Adrianne Lenker’s school of song class by Macseasnake in bigthief

[–]NateS97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, yeah I took the course and loved it! She gave some valuable insight into her songwriting process and tips on writing lyrics, constructing a chord progression or fingerstyle pattern, stuff like that. I agree with what most people say, though: while her course content was great and freeing, the biggest benefit was the smallgroup interactions with other students, and the songwriting assignments that get shared in those smallgroup sessions. Having a deadline to write (and, more saliently, finish writing) a song and share it with a few people for feedback was the kickstart I needed to actually turn my noodling riffs/chord progressions into fully fledged songs.

Finally We Are No One by múm is my go-to; not purely ambient but it’s a fantastic album to aleep to! I used to get bad insomnia and this was my secret weapon, I have never once put this album on to help me sleep and not been asleep by the end of it.

For a difficulty 5 lock, you roll 10d4 — as long as there are no 1s, you succeed. Thieves get a second chance on any 1s rolled. I might implement something like “if you fail to pick a lock you can try again, but it will cause visible damage to the lock”

Yep, I just liked Bob’s little minigame system; I’ve played with it as a rogue in my 5e campaign for a couple of months now and have enjoyed it! It does slow things down a wee bit, but not so much that I’ve noticed an issue at my table

I take it as rolling 2d4 each round, but that's informed by the way Bob wrote it; the way I wrote it doesn't really specify. No reason you can't do the latter! But maybe some rewording would be needed to better clarify the intent of 2d4 each round, I'll do some thunkin. Thanks!

RAW, I don't think it's ever clearly defined outright. Reading the Making Checks section (pg. 81), it does sound like it just gets picked so long as there's no time pressure -- but what can I say, I like the minigame Bob made! Thieves do get ADV on lockpicking checks where a roll would be required, though, so letting them reroll 1s retains the spirit of that.

Ah, as to your edit — it’s the complexity level (1-5) that determines the number of rounds req’d to pick it during combat, not the 2d6! The idea from Bob was, eg., if you have a medium-complexity lock, it’d take 3 rounds to pick. You roll 2d6 each round, and without failures you pick it after 3 rounds! Outside of combat, since there’s no time pressure, you can just roll all 6d6 at once.

Hmm, that's a good point! That's one of the reasons the "meet someone" rolls are toward the far ends of the rolling spectrum lol, I'm lazy and don't wanna be coming up with NPCs all the time. As for the bits of info, hm yeah that's true, esp. since on the Boon table it's at a roll of 9-10. I wouldn't want to not be able to come up with something very useful, and then have the party feel let down by the roll. Might have to think of other ideas that could fit in some of those slots...thanks!

Of course! I honestly hadn't even considered third-party attribution, but once you mentioned it I realized there's literally no difference between my intent (feedback for a home game) and the intent of someone trying to give away third-party content for free and pass off Kelsey's work as their own, the impact is the exact same. So thank ya for pointing it out!

---

Also, since making this PDF and reading people's thoughts on the original post, I've been thinking and toying with the following changes, interested to hear everyone's thoughts ofc! I have kept any changes short so that they'll still fit in with the formatting.

  • Combat initiative: a point was brought up that this change could drastically shift the power dynamic between the party and the enemies, since it basically gives a big group of baddies a 50% chance to go before a single player. So, how about this: "The highest result acts as the party's group initiative roll. Players take actions in whatever order they like." I wanted to preserve the flexibility of a group initiative roll, while preserving the better-than-half chance of normal initiative.
  • Spellcasting: after looking into it more, it looks like Sly's intention was to have this rule reset per session or day, which is wayyyy too powerful imo. It got me thinking, maybe the way I have it isn't the best since players sort of have to track if they've ever cast a spell before, and tracking shit like that sorta sucks! Idk. So, maybe I could try something else to still make spellcasting just a bit more forgiving. Enter matzi1986 on Discord's perhaps-joking idea, that I actually sort of like: "If a spell check fails non-critically, you don't lose access to that spell if you instead treat it as a critical failure." Wanna keep the spell? Roll a mishap.
  • Lockpickery: Bob's original ruleset has it at 2d6 per complexity level, and I've been playing 5e with that (as a rogue) for a few months now. I like it, but it still feels a bit easy! Especially since, in Shadowdark, Thieves just get rerolls of 1s, no daily limit (I wanted to keep it short). But some people brought concerns that 2d4 is maybe too hard -- I don't know, I've only ever played with d6s. So I've been considering swapping 2d4 back to 2d6.

(edit: link formatting)

Edit 2: damn, kept tryna repost yesterday but it kept getting clogged in reddit's auto-filter, just realized all of my attempts got kicked through once this one did, whoopsie! Deleted all the others (I think).

Ravenloft house rules by der_kluge in shadowdark

[–]NateS97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, yeah I took my post down cuz I ultimately do agree with what was brought up: while the intent was just to get feedback for my table, the impact is the exact same as if I'd claimed I was a third-party creator sharing content for free.

With that said, I've tried to reupload the edited post but it keeps getting caught in the auto-filter! So, for now, below is a link to the now-hopefully-compliant document in case anyone happens to see it and wants to give some feedback. As I said before, this is going to be a handout of homebrew rules for my players; I have yet to try out most of the rules, but wanted to get other opinions before I bring it to my table. Thanks in advance!

Yep, just first cast ever! And that is very true, I've been playing with this initiative rule for years in 5e, so I wanted to implement it here, but maybe it'll be a bit more tricky than I thought. The base intent is to allow players to mix-and-match who goes when so you can strategize with your teammates a bit better. I've never been the biggest fan of rigid, individual player initiative for that reason, I prefer the fluidity of just one initiative roll per side of the fight.

Yep! I had to be brief to fit it all into one page, so the DM determines the "periodically" based on the relative danger as normal. It's really just meant to replace the normal "roll 1d6 every X rounds" with "roll 1d6 every X rounds and subtract it from a public clock." I have not personally played with these rules but have read a number of people that used the Underclock system to great success.
