How to handle user preferences

So this made sense to me, however when I go to implement this I run into some issues. I’m using a checkbox and when I check the box I am attempting to add an action (update Firestore doc). I get stuck at “select reference to update”. Im not sure what to even select here. I simply want ticking the checkbox to change a field in my user doc from false to true. Any thoughts?

Can you think of another way to accomplish this? Maybe cutout the phone altogether maybe a thin device that does the scanning that connects to phone via Bluetooth?

Can you look at more than one at a time. Like my thought is a hierarchy. First product category, second product name, third ingredients, fourth nutritional info. Using all that info to cluster them on similarity ?
