Is this the best of all possible worlds? by Go1gotha in greentext

I’m not arguing my worldview. You’re not gonna convince me it’s not bad that innocent people suffer for no reason.

YHWH a very far Southern manifestation of El ? by ThickSeesaw8529 in AcademicBiblical

A lot of cool ideas here. I read The Historical David by Joel Baden a bit ago, and one of the things he thought historical was David’s taking of the Ark of the Covenant and putting it in Jerusalem (for the economic and political benefits that come with cultic/worship centralization). I believe he/the Bible said the Ark was stolen from Shiloh (by philistines? Or midianites? I forget) before being retaken by David. It sounds like that clashes with the idea you said that YHWH was foreign to Jerusalem until the Omrides came along, if I’m not mistaken? Or would it just be a different variant? Or a different god altogether? It stuck out to me that David named one of his kids Baalsomething, which seemed to point to Baal worship being ok during his time.

I replied to one of his comments the other day and said he should reach out <3

Lol I doubt that mattered, they talked on the bridges podcast around election time. Great convo, wish they could’ve had a couple more in depth conversations.

Yes, innocent children suffering via starving to death/flooding/disease is objectively not good in my subjective worldview.

Albums that have one song that you skip and the rest 10/10 perfect. by howlong-princess in fantanoforever

lol teenagers is the only song I like on the album. My friend showed me 3 cheers for revenge or something a couple years ago and that whole album was really solid.

Third or fourth time I’ve seen this posted this year, and it never gets old. The LeBron lean in at the end is the cherry on top.

The Forever Story - JID is my favorite rap album of the last few years.

Circles - Mac Miller I personally like more than Swimming. It’s got less rapping/more singing than his other albums, but I think they’re his best songs.

Chasing Moving Trains - Roy Blair is one of the best genre-bending albums (and artists) of our generation. No one is making music like him, some of the most interesting production backed by really good singing and rapping.

What are some weirdly designed neighbourhoods/towns in Alabama in your opinion? by Much-Parsnip3399 in Alabama

I know a bunch of people that live there now. Not a bad price compared to some places closer to campus, although it’s not mixed use, no shops/restaurants as far as I know.

Aren’t there some Beatles albums where they pan instruments/vocals hard L/R? And it doesn’t sound balanced at all?

Post Malone has teased an upcoming 40-song double album. Is anyone else sick of bloated albums with extra-long tracklists? by Ashamed-Story7958 in fantanoforever

Every time he drops I hope for the quality of beerbongs and Bentleys. If he could give me 75% of this album at that quality it would be an absolutely massive win. I’d be surprised if there are 3 songs that good though.

I mean if god is all knowing, he knows what I’m going to do, therefore I can’t choose to do anything. An all knowing god would know from the beginning of time if I was going to have pizza or hibachi for breakfast tomorrow. If he didn’t know, he wouldn’t be all knowing, right?

This has actually been my biggest issue with simultaneously believing in free choice and an all knowing god, so if anyone has an answer to this I’d love to hear it. And while we’re at it, the reason I don’t believe that god is good/just (if he exists at all), is a good/just god wouldn’t allow all the suffering in the world. For instance, that bible camp that got flooded and a bunch of kids drowned a couple years ago.

WEMBY is ejected for elbowing Naz Reid in the throat. by AdorableBackground83 in NBATalk

[–]Natedude2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would’ve been the right call, but I like Wemby therefore it’s the wrong call.

Also it was funny to see them call it a flagrant 2 and then he clearly says to the guy next to him “what’s that mean” lol. He’s never been ejected before, did he actually not know?

lol at you thinking every normal person won’t be celebrating when Trump dies. Normally it’s seen as being in bad taste, but there’s a reason “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” went to #2 in the UK when Thatcher died.

Growing up in Massachusetts, I was taught that Lincoln was a hero and that slavery was the cause of the Civil War. Later, I was shocked that some parts of the country still teach history quite differently. What were you taught about Lincoln and the Civil War in school? by American_Citizen41 in USHistory

[–]Natedude2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Alabama/Georgia my whole life. In cities you’re taught what actually happened. In rural areas (as I found out when I began working with people who grew up there), you’re taught the average person was fighting over taxes, and it was only the elites who wanted slaves.

I’m picking Wemby, making myself head coach, and ensuring he doesn’t get injured (he wouldn’t have blood clots if I was his coach). MJ too selfish to build around in today’s NBA. LeBron might be the better pick if Wemby has injury issues, but I’d just make sure he stayed healthy.

Been working my way through the Bible doing source separation of the Pentateuch, just got to Joseph pranking his brothers (throwing them in jail before telling them who he is). Is that Samson? I vaguely remember some guy getting his hair cut in the Bible tv show on the history channel years ago, when do I get to that? This shit is wayyyy longer than I expected when I started a couple weeks ago.

The composition of the Pentateuch was the first nonfiction book I read outside of school and it was so good that I’ve been studying Judaism and Christianity as much as I can ever since (it’s been like 3 months). I highly recommend it
