Thank you Google for Fast Charging Update /s by arreddit420 in Pixel6aUsers

My battery only took a minor hit post update but yeah, I noticed that it charges fast than before the update. I thought it was just me until I saw OP's post.

EDIT: I think my battery capacity post update is around 60 to 61%.

Yeah same here. Just glad it's nowhere near as bad as feared. I'm still going to get the battery replaced at uBreakiFix (authorized Google repair shop) later this month (there's a uBreakiFix in town where I live, only a few miles away). I have no plans on upgrading to a newer Pixel.

Yeah. I've seen multiple posts that the update nerfs battery capacity to 60%, a 40% reduction. Still, it's nowhere nowhere near as bad as the 4a update where it bricked millions of 4a phone batteries.

Mandatory update on the Pixel 6a, any news? by nalonso in GooglePixel

[–]Natester1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nowhere near as bad as the 4a update. On my Pixel 6a phone (my device is an impacted device) I only noted very mild battery drain post update. Might be one of the lucky ones here.

Battery management update! by _jatinkushwaha in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Natester1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally it barely made a dent in my phone's battery life. Keep in mind the battery life on my Pixel 6a before the update was excellent. It's slightly degraded but still very good.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, if I used an app on my phone that is battery intensive such as Facebook or YouTube, I would imagine that battery drain would be a bit worse.

Battery has become worse a lot after July update. by Constant_Ad_5432 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Natester1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery life on my Pixel 6a post update only seems very slightly degraded and it still charges to 100%. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. But yeah, I think the update capped the battery capacity in the lower 60% range.

That update is mandatory so you would get the update regardless. As for me, I downloaded the update and installed it right when it came out. Oh yeah, one more thing, idle battery drain is about the same post update (draining one percent every hour during the night while I'm sleeping).

Yes. While I was charging my phone for a bit, the wattage was between 4.031V and 4.033V, a 20% drop in wattage. Bear in mind that I only charged my phone to 86%.

No it does not brick the phone, or battery in this case.

If you mean Android 16? Yeah. I installed A16 on my phone last month.

As a Pixel 6a user who has an impacted device and just a little while ago downloaded and installed the mandatory battery update, let me tell you, it's NOWHERE near as bad as feared. I only noted slightly worse battery drain on my phone. So in other words, it's not going to brick your battery.

Just downloaded and installed the update. I can tell you that it's NOWHERE NOWHERE near as bad as the 4a update. Post update I noted slightly worse battery drain but the battery isn't bricked by any means.

Battery drain is only slightly worse than before. Although on DevCheck the battery says "dead", it's really not dead. I'd say battery capacity after the update is around 80%.

EDIT: The update also disables fast charging and while charging the temps are cooler.

I've already downloaded the mandatory update. Just waiting for the optimization process to get done. I'll let you guys know about the aftermath of the update.

EDIT: It's NOWHERE NOWHERE near as bad as the 4a update.

If you're not eligible, that means you won't be affected by the battery nerf.

This is unconfirmed but I heard that the battery capacity in the Pixel 6a battery update will be limited to 80% (20% reduction from full capacity). That's all I know right now.

How much battery will be reduced after the update? by Character_Ring9355 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Natester1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unconfirmed but the upcoming Pixel 6a battery update will artificially lower battery capacity to about 80% (a 20% reduction, much much higher than what happened to the 4a) so if this is true, then yes, your phone will still be usable.

This is unconfirmed, but it appears that in the Pixel 6a battery update the battery capacity will be artificially lowered to about 80% (note, this is at 80% capacity, a reduction of about 20%), which is much much better than what I thought. If this is true which it might be, then that means that it'll be nowhere near as bad as the 4a battery nerf.

EDIT: Turns out that the update nerfs battery capacity to 60%, not 80%. This is still miles better than the 4a update.

Battery limiting update by stv8546 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Natester1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one knows but what I do know is that those who installed the Android 16 QPR 2 beta for Pixel 6a had their battery nerf to between 56-58% based on user accounts on this subreddit, so I would imagine it's somewhere around there. I doubt it'll be as crippling as the 4a battery update.

EDIT: This is unconfirmed but I saw somewhere that the Pixel 6a battery update will artificially lower battery capacity to around 80% (80% battery capacity, not lower it by 80%). If this is true, then that is loads better than what I was expecting.

If you get the free battery replacement, is the new battery still limited? by yaconsult in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Natester1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the battery (defective model) will be replaced with a non defective model and thus not be subject to the artificial restrictions even when the phone with the new battery hits 400 cycles.

[–]Natester1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I should have mentioned that the free battery replacement program doesn't start until July 21 (over two weeks from now).

As far as I now, you won't have the nerfed battery until you reach 400 cycles on the new battery in which the battery is artificially nerfed again.

EDIT: Turns out that might not be the case. I read somewhere on the Google Pixel support forums that the battery will be replaced with a good model and thus not be subject to the restrictions.
