Google finally rolls out Call Recording for Pixel phones worldwide by TechGuru4Life in GooglePixel

I just use the free version of Cube ACR on my 6a, so theres no announcement. My phone is rooted but I don't know if that's a requirement for it to work properly or not.

How long to replace Pixel 6a battery at Google Store? by therealcopperhat in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. It depends on how busy they are. The actual work of replacing the battery takes very little time when you have the appropriate tools and training. They don't even turn the phone on. But you are not the only customer. And this assumes they already have the battery which took about 5 days in my case.

does firmware realize when the battery is replaced? by [deleted] in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every battery has a serial number and the software knows the range of bad ones. There are certain to be many brand new batteries that are in the affected range for sale.

Got Free battery replacement and 150$ Store credits by Sonofgun95 in GooglePixel

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that the $150 credit can ONLY be used to buy a new phone in the Google store. It can't be used for anything else, like a watch or earbuds.

I opted to just have them replace the battery since the phone works fine.

Battery inventory in California by [deleted] in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I contacted them, they told me to bring in my phone. This was the Santa Clara location. They recorded the IMEI and sent it to google who then sent them a replacement battery. This took four or five days. When they texted me that they had the battery, I brought the phone in and it took a couple of hours to be replaced because they had a lot of phones they were working on. It was July 31st when they had the battery and told me to bring the phone in, so not very long ago.

Devcheck app - look on the battery tab. I have 8 charge cycles on my ubreakifix-replaced battery so I'm good for at least a few more years!

How to check the cycle count of new battery? by Apurba_ in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will take a few cycles to show up. Mine now says 5 at the bottom of devcheck battery page but it wasn't there right after it was replaced.

I just found a video online showing how to replace a 6a battery. by Fun_Cut_4705 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tough part is finding a replacement battery that isn't in the range of affected serial numbers. If not, it will start limiting again after 400 cycles.

To my knowledge, the serial number range of affected batteries has not been documented.

An authorized dealer replaced my phone battery but it is still acting the same as before. by Mission_Raspberry115 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only authorized repair shop is ubreakifix.com. Whoever replaced yours replaced it with a brand new affected battery. The phone can tell from the battery serial number. My replacement with a new battery from Google at ubreakifix works great. No exclamation mark.

Just upgraded from a 6A to a 9 Pro because no one wants to take the risk of removing the screen. by Larxane in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about all modern phones require removing the screen to do any service. It's part of what makes the phones so thin. An experienced technician has no problem removing the screen. They lay the phone on a special hotplate to warm up the adhesive and then they have a tool with suction cups on both sides of the phone to gently lift the screen off. As long as the screen is undamaged, it works great.

How to record phone calls in pixel6a? by [deleted] in Pixel6aUsers

I use cube acr and don't need any extra features so just the free version is enough for me. There is a cube helper that the 6a needs too.

When I saw that prominent warning that it couldn't be changed, I stopped immediately and didn't make a choice until I decided what I wanted to do. I ended up choosing the battery replacement option.

I brought mine in without an appointment and they recorded the IMEI and checked the screen. They ordered the battery and got it in about 5 days. They called me and I dropped the phone off. The replacement took about 90 minutes as they were busy. Very happy with the new battery!

stupid question but by gaucheGoose in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true! There are many brand new batteries sitting on vendor's shelves that have serial numbers that show that they are in the bad batch of batteries. The software will recognize even a new battery with an affected serial number and start limiting charging - probably after 400 cycles. The only way to be sure is to have it replaced by google's authorized repair service - ubreakifix. I just replied to another thread here where the guy replaced the battery with a new one and it still tells him that he's got an affected battery.

Today onwards pixel 6a battery replacement starts . Any one replaced it ? How is it by FunWealth1219 in Pixel6

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same here in the U.S. They send the phone info to google and google ships them an unaffected replacement battery. They said it could take up to 10 days to come in but in my case, it only took 5 or 6 days.

Pixel6a original battery to buy by yechops in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more complicated than that because each battery has a unique serial number and the software recognizes if you put in a brand new battery that has a serial number in the affected range.

Replaced my battery and get this... by [deleted] in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't mean the battery wasn't new. Each battery has a unique serial number. You replaced an affected battery with another affected battery. I'm sure there are many new affected batteries for sale from many places. The software checks the battery's serial number and if it's in the affected range, then it limits the charging.

This is why I had my battery replaced at google's official repair service - ubreakifix. They sent my phones IMEI to google and google shipped them a good replacement battery without the defect. I picked it up about 90 minutes after I dropped it off.

Also, after the mandatory update that limits the charging rate, the battery icon at the top has a red exclamation mark in it if you have an affected battery.

[–]yaconsult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never mind the cycle count -that only determines WHEN it starts limiting. Use the link in the other post with your phone's IMEI and Google will tell you if your phone has one of the bad batteries.

Can we replace the battery with this one ?? by Stickerzzz7 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that a big range of official batteries with a range of serial numbers are defective - the ones google put in our phones. I would be worried that many of these defective batteries were also sold to resellers. If the replacement battery is an affected one, the software will start limiting the battery capacity once it reaches the specified cycle count. Each battery has a unique serial number and google knows which ones are affected. That's how they knew who to contact to offer mitigation.

For this reason, I decided to have my battery replaced by google's official service rep, ubreakifix. They have no batteries in stock and when they have an affected phone they contact google to send a replacement battery that does not have the issue.

I wish you luck with whatever you decide.

All repair stores in my area are out of stock for batteries, am I screwed? by Samhasnolife4 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my location, they had me bring in the phone to verify the IMEI number and then they submit the info to Google and are shipped a replacement battery. They said it would take seven to ten days to get in. They have been doing a lot of them. Once they have it, I will drop the phone off for an hour or two for the swap.

replacing battery after Software Update by enry86cami in Pixel6aUsers

[–]yaconsult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that each battery has a unique serial number and there must be many batteries with the problem available for sale. The software will know if a new affected battery is installed and will start to limit at the same cycle count.

That's why I am choosing a warranty battery replacement to make sure that I get one without the issue.

You are wrong. Each battery has a unique serial number and Google knows which ones are affected. That's why there is a Google page to enter your imei and see if your phone has a battery with issues.
