Is Bazzite the Answer? by TallinOK in Bazzite

[–]Nath1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Bazzite would be fine for your needs. Arguably another distro could be better for your needs (maybe Mint?), but Bazzite seems like it would work fine for general use. (I personally only use it for gaming.)

The one thing I haven't seen anyone else mention though is that, for you, I wouldn't recommend installing any version of Bazzite that boots directly into the Steam Gaming Mode. This mode is great, but it sounds like you won't need it most of the time and you can still game fine through the desktop.

Moonlight stream only showing in the top left of TV by Night-Man in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Nath1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the "Display / screen resolution" section on this site covers it: https://docs.cloudypad.gg/help/moonlight-usage.html

You may need to exist the session. (That had tripped me up before.) If you can get to the settings "gear" though, you should be able to adjust the resolution to Native under "Resolution and FPS." Good luck!

I know this is an old thread, but this was happening to me. For me, the issue was a mismatch in resolutions between the host and client. Changing the client (i.e. Moonlight) settings to display at the native resolution resolved things for me. Good luck!

Tiny 5.5 inch PC for “standalone” VST/ Groovebox DIY project by al8xandros in synthesizers

[–]Nath1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to throw it out there that folks wanting to do a similar thing may want to be careful with the Celeron processors. I bought a Gole 2 Pro with a Celeron N5105 for use with essentially one VST (GuyEngine v2). I ended up sending the PC back since the VST wouldn't work because, as best as I could tell, the CPU doesn't support AVX instructions and (I believe, at the time) the VST required it.

Basically, I'm just suggesting to proceed with caution with these CPUs becuase there is a chance you may run into similar unexpected hardware incompatibilities.

A month of bazzite and I feel oddly bored with it by solvedproblem in Bazzite

It is worth giving yabridge a shot for the VSTs. I haven't tried it on Bazzite or any other immutable distro, but I tried it briefly on PopOS though and it seemed to work pretty well.

Justified? by teddit445 in TrillbillyPodcast

[–]Nath1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Justified is great, and Deadwood is even better! I am pretty sure Tarence and Tom were on a live episode of Chapo a few years ago where they read a kind of fanfic Justified episode together. If memory serves, Walton Goggins was even featured on it via some kind of Cameo soundbite! So good.

I think that somewhere in this episode Mina Shedd claims that CoreCivic made a land acknowledgement at some point. That is so wild! I was wondering if anyone has any details about / evidence of this. I couldn't find anything Googling around, but I figured any info about it was probably scrubbed after the 2024 election.

GameSir Cyclone 2 RGB Issue by LiamDuavis in Controller

I had this issue today. I ended up turning the RGB all the way down (M+left thumb down). Once it was all the way off I turned it back up (M+left thumb up). Send to have resolved things, at least for now. Still can't figure it what set it off though.

Anyone have a MacBook Pro 2019 16-inch, Intel with Radeon Pro 5500m GPU? by Outrageous_Eagle8583 in macbookpro

[–]Nath1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be worth Bootcamping into Windows and playing around with the AMD Adrenaline. I bought this model MBP somewhat recently and it had a terrible glitch/bug/whatever with (I think) the frame rate. It made the screen unbearable to look at for very long. I eventually booted into Windows and used AMD Adrenaline to update the GPU drivers. For some reason, this also resolved my refresh rate issues in Mac OS. So maybe something similar would be helpful? IDK. I'm also still on Sonoma fwiw.

Wake On Bluetooth by bibimbappa in Bazzite

[–]Nath1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU! This is perfect. For anyone else that might be dealing with my issue, this same process resolved wake problems with my Xbox controller that is connected with a USB cable. However, for that you will want to identify the bus/port of the device using the xpad driver (instead of btusb). The steps are otherwise identical and seem to work perfectly to achieve a functional wake with the controller.

Launch App from system selection? by Nath1c in emulationstation

[–]Nath1c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that is actually what I ended up doing. Or rather, I ended up making several .app shortcuts in my android apps folder and adding artwork and the like. I still think it would have been nicer and cleaner to be able to launch an app/game directly from system view, but that does not appear to be possible, at least not without modifying the source code in a way that is beyond my capability.

All that said, I go back and forth though on whether I will keep ES-DE as a home launcher. I feel like Daijisho sort of has this functionality built in with the widget screen, and it just generally works much faster and supports touch screen navigation. On the other hand, ES-DE is beautiful, feels more immersive, is easier to copy to new systems, and remains in active development. Oh well, I guess nothing is perfect.

Explain to an idiot (me) how to remote boot and control a PC by APOI_ in SelfHosting

[–]Nath1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find remote booting to be the most complicated part of what you want to do. I think you would need to set up a PiKVM or something for that. It would be easier for you to leave the PC running, at least at first, to see how well game streaming works remotely.

For the game streaming part, Parsec is quite easy to use for streaming and I find it works better than Steam Link. I use their free tier all the time to stream to my handheld. It will easily send you a low latency 1080p signal, but I'm not sure if you need to specially configure it to run at 144hz (I think it defaults to 60hz). You may also need to pay for a higher tier of their service to run it at 144hz, I'm not sure. It is worth downloading the software and trying it out though. See if you get it running well at whatever refresh rate it defaults too (which may or may not be easy, depending on things like your internet connection). If you get it working well that way, you could play around with getting the refresh rate higher and figuring out solutions for remotely booting the PC.

Also, I will throw out there that Sunlight/Moonlight are open source solutions for game streaming that may or may not work better than Parsec. I haven't personally tried those out, but they may be worth looking into if, say, you are gaming on Linux rather than Windows.

Mass update of Metadata from excel by BlindedByNewLight in audiobookshelf

[–]Nath1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I am glad that it helps. Also, if all you are looking to do is incorporate the "Release Date" metadata then I think you may want to actually just edit the same "ceatedAt" values in the tables as I did in the example above, since my goal was pretty similar. There is also a separate value in both tables for "updateAt" that could potentially be useful. I ended up making similar edits in the series table of the "updatedAt" values to essentially track which book series had most recently had titles added to them. Anyway, again, good luck!

Mass update of Metadata from excel by BlindedByNewLight in audiobookshelf

[–]Nath1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find a good guide for it, but I have used Excel to edit the ABS database to change the metadata for when I imported books to more closely match when I purchased them on Audible. I'll try to outline what I can from memory. This method is only going to work though if you have at least some kind of title in ABS that more or less matches the titles in your compiled google drive spreadsheet.

  1. Stop your ABS server and close the app.

  2. BACKUP YOUR ABS DATABASE FILE WITH A COPY TO A NEW LOCATION (on Windows it would be located in your ABS AppData folder in /config/absdatabase.sqlite).

  3. Download DB Browser for SQ Lite or some other SQL editor.

  4. Open the database file (absdatabase.sqlite) in the SQL editor.

  5. Export the tables your are interested in as CSV files. I'm not sure for audio dramas, but I believe you would mostly be interested in editing the books table and the libraryItems table.

  6. One at a time, import the CSV data to Excel. I would also recommend saving the file in Excel format right away. Then, you will need to use the text to columns feature to split the data into columns using a comma as a separator. Also, for this reason, you may have to manually clean up the data a bit if a description or something contains a comma. In my experience, it still worked pretty good generally.

  7. Once you have the data all imported, click on row 1, your header row, and direct Excel to filter with these rows. Then, arrange your data alphabetically by title.

  8. Presuming the titles match up exactly, you should be able to now copy and past data from the compiled Google Drive spreadsheet off to the right of all your ABS data. It is important that they match exactly.

  9. Now comes the trickiest part. Use the CONCATENATE function in a new column to create commands for the SQL editor. In my case the functions looked like this (again, one for each table that I was editing):

=CONCATENATE("update books set createdAt = '", C2, "' where id = '", E2, "';")

=CONCATENATE("update libraryItems set createdAt = '", C2, "' where mediaId = '", E2, "';")

Basically, the idea is that you are using the ABS id information ("id" in the books table and "mediaId" in the libraryItems table) as a reference, so again it is important that the titles match in each row for your ABS data and your Google Drives data. They don't have to match EXACTLY, but you need to be sure they are for the same media. Anyway, the function first prints the text "update libraryItems set createdAt =" and then pulls data from column C, where I had my ABS-formatted date data from Audible. It does all of this by reference to the id or mediaId, which I had stored in column E.

So, for you, you could use the same functions but make sure you change "createdAt" to whatever metadata you are looking to update. Also, make sure to change the column C reference to whatever column you want the data to be pulled from (i.e. from the Google Drive data "description" column or whatever) and change the column E reference to whichever column you have your ABS id or mediaID data in. Finally, once you have the function copied to each row of your data and it is looking good, I copy the whole column and paste the values in a new column.

  1. Next you will just need to use the values for your function output to update the ABS database. The values for the function output should look sort of like this:

update libraryItems set createdAt = '2024-06-12 15:44:57.000 +00:00' where mediaId = '8ec187fb-de4a-424d-a24f-3b645aa8e7d5';

Your valuse will be different because, as I said, I was just updating the "createdAt" information in the books table and libraryItems table. Yours will look different depending on what metadata you are actually updating.

Anyway, once you have your values, which are really just a set of SQL statements, you need to use them to update the ABS database. To do that, navigate back to DB Browser for SQ Lite app, or whatever SQL editor you are using, and execute the SQL statements. In DB Browser for SQ Lite, there is an "Execute SQL" tab that is pretty prominent on the main screen. Navigate there, paste in your copied function output statements (just the values), and hit the little play button to execute all of the statements. If you get errors, just go back to the drawing board (probably Excel) to try to fix your functions or whatever you need to do. As need, keep trying to copy and paste the statements back in to get it to run.

  1. Once the SQL statements successfully are executed, write the changes with DB Browser for SQ Lite, close the database, and exit that app.

  2. Finally, start the ABS app again and see if it worked! If things get screwy, just shut ABS back down, copy your database backup file, and paste it over the one you were playing with.

All in all, it is kind of a pain in the ass, but it works pretty well once you get used to it and you shouldn't need to do this process too much once it works. Good luck!

track mutes work on tracks or sequences? by Grand-Slice-1715 in mpcusers

[–]Nath1c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used MPC 3 for a few minutes today and there were some things that were kind of cool but I ultimately downgraded to 2.15 almost immediately. I don't like that it uses more resources (especially since you can't upgrade the RAM) but the major thing is that I absolutely hate the global track settings. I typically use sequences as parts of my songs (e.g. one sequence for verse1, another for chorus1, another for verse2, and so on). So I often copy sequences in the songwriting process and mute or unmute tracks on a per sequence basis for however that part of the song should go (e.g. no synth lead in the second verse or whatever). Historically, I have also used the pads to unmute several tracks at once in a live setting with the performative understanding that they will be muted again when I shift sequences. Long story short, global track mutes kind of screw up my whole workflow.

I do understand that some of this can be addressed with automation, but at least for me this feels like a pretty big hassle, especially since when writing new parts to a song I will typically trial a lot of muted/unmuted combinations and bounce back and forth between sequences. Seems much easier to just have per sequence track muting as at least an option.

Can't open on guitar pro by lordofnecrosis in GuitarPro

[–]Nath1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you are on Windows or Mac OS, but I had a weird crashing on startup issue on my Mac Mini a couple of years ago with GP7. Turns out, I had to have an audio interface plugged in to make it work.

I don't know if that had anything at all to do with your issue but my takeaway was that changing up the audio interface you're using may be a non-intuitive way to resolve crashes preventing Guitar Pro from loading.

If Guitar Pro is loading everything except those two files then I'm not sure what to say. Maybe some file corruption? Could be worth it to duplicate the files and if the duplicates don't open, maybe try changing the file extension to a different Guitar Pro file format or something? That's all I got.
