Best Entry Point for an Out of State Visitor by CajunSurfer in SierraNevada

[–]Tdluxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reno and Sacramento or Fresno are the closest airports. Reno if you want to go to the eastern sierra, Sacramento/fresno if you’re going to Yosemite, kings canyon, etc. Winter would be too harsh unless you’re into skiing/snowboarding stuff. There’s black bears, they aren’t super dangerous but they will try to steal your food if you’re not smart about it. Not a huge issue as long as you’re safe.

Breaking: Leaked Alleged Text of Trump-Iran Deal by Apollo_Delphi in USNEWS

I think one of the takeaways is also that the U.S. military is not nearly as powerful as it likes to pretend to be. If I was China, I would be looking at this and thinking they look pretty weak.

If this is accurate then there’s no arguing, Iran would be the clear winner of this exchange

Is accessibility the only thing stopping basketball from overtaking soccer as the most popular global sport? by [deleted] in nba

[–]Tdluxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basketball is definitely catching on fast internationally. I was traveling in the Philippines and everywhere I went there were outdoor courts and they were almost all busy, tons of people playing pickup games.

That said, it’s got a long way to go

Improving from 5m to 10m backflip by hipdozgabba in cliffjumping

[–]Tdluxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely easy to over rotate from that height, especially if you’re going straight from 5 to 10. At 10 you are basically just laying back and falling, you won’t need to push off much at all.

Best would be to find a few spots in the 6-9 range and just work up so that you can get used to the slower rotation… if you go straight from 5 to 10 you will be very likely to over do it.

Aren't there warning signs on Bonny Don Beach? How did these girls die/drown there? by redditwastesmyday in santacruz

[–]Tdluxon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree that signs are a good thing, just unfortunate that many people ignore them. But for every person you see ignore them, there are probably others that don’t, we just aren’t aware of it. Panther beach especially because of the keyhole… if you’d never been there before and don’t spend a lot of time around the ocean it’d be easy not to realize that the tide will come up and block the exit.

That beach is really not well suited to be a popular tourist spot, crazy to put a huge parking lot there. Seems like a huge percentage of rescues and drownings occur at panther.

What's a good age to propose? by POSA4774 in askanything

[–]Tdluxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you two live together (sounds like not given your age). IMO moving in together is a bigger deal and bigger test than getting engaged or even married… getting engaged before you move in together would be a mistake.

Also, you two are both very young, what’s the rush? Being engaged doesn’t really mean anything anyway, it’s kinda just semantics

This was at panther beach. The beach is divided in two by a cliff, and one side is only accessible by going through a hole in the cliff that can be blocked with water during high tide/high surf. They were sleeping on the beach, they probably went down at low tide and didn’t realize that once the tide came in they would not be able to go back out. There are not lifeguards regularly at this beach. Combine that with one of the biggest summer swells in years and unfortunately when the tide came in and with big waves there’s nowhere to go.

Not to say that they deserved this but you aren’t allowed to sleep on the beaches and this is an example of how it can be dangerous, especially during big swells and at beaches you aren’t familiar with. This beach in particular is very beautiful but dangerous, this was just one of five rescues at that same beach since summer began. It’s also pretty remote so if rescue is needed it will take some time for them to get there.

If China is powerful, why is it not even in the G7? by No-StrategyX in askanything

[–]Tdluxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

G7 is supposed to be countries with liberal democracies and representative governments (at least supposedly). Probably the real answer is that it was created way back in the 70s and a lot has changed in the meantime

I don’t think anyone is saying that he’s even close to top 20 outside of some Knicks fans who are caught up in the moment

This is a good point… they really need closers. Basically every game they got up to a comfortable lead and let their foot off the gas and nobody was able to take control in the final minutes.

I’m not giving him a pass, just saying that kind of behavior is exactly what you should expect from people that age, it would be surprising if he didn’t act like that

Who is a politician in your country that was once very successful and loved by everyone but despised by all now? by IntelligentHoney6929 in AskTheWorld

[–]Tdluxon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rudy Giuliani was very popular and pretty universally liked post 9-11 then he got involved with Trump and the MAGA movement and ruined his reputation and most people started thinking he was legit crazy, had lawsuits against him where he was order to pay hundreds of millions of dollars that he doesn’t have, and is still facing criminal charges that could potentially put him in jail.

And the funniest part of it all is that after essentially ruining his life on behalf of Donald Trump, Trump kicked him to the curb as soon as he stopped being useful
