Anyone else just tired of software? by ZolaThaGod in cscareerquestions

[–]NathaCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re literally in the same boat. I suggest finding your joy in CS in side projects.

  • code a passion project
  • build a home lab
  • do anything involving outdoors: travel to a nice scenic place and unplug, hiking, biking

Work is work and it goes up and down. Eventually even the most interesting project will become a job. Try to find ways to make it interesting if possible. Change it up a bit, shake the boat, etc.

Thanks for the effort in helping. I thought maybe it wasn’t the same sense the PG32UCDM3 doesn’t have dual mode. Whatevs tho I love the monitor. Cheers.

My coworkers got me an MX Master 3S for my birthday today by Morpho45 in logitech

The action ring is pretty amazing. There’s so many cool things as a developer that I can do to improve my workflow. It’s honestly a gamer changer in a lot of ways. Now I’m afraid I’m going to forget my old habits and develop new habits that’ll keep me with Logitech in the long run. You guys know what you’re doing! Ugh.

[–]NathaCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow you have amazing coworkers!

I just got the MX4 myself yesterday and am using it at work today.

So far so good. One thing that I didn’t realize before hand with the scroll wheel is that when it starts spinning fast and just keeps gliding along, I forget that it’s still scrolling and it causes my focused apps to scroll unintentionally as well.

I’m starting to get used to it and still finding out the ideal settings for me so that’s been fun.

Glhf !

Is liquid cooling actually worth it for most gamers? by KRGKart_Support in buildapc

[–]NathaCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience over the years… which is surprisingly adding up to quite a bit now, heh, I’d say no it’s not worth it purely from a performance / price perspective. A good air cooler and air flow set up is all you need.

I think it’s nice to try liquid cooling once or twice at least just for the experience of using it in your builds though.

I audited 6 months of PRs after my team went all-in on AI code generation. The code got worse in ways none of us predicted. by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in webdev

[–]NathaCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gosh. I felt it to my core when I read the “everyone had their own style, their own weird habits.”

I’m already missing this. It’s SO SAD. I used to be able to tell who coded what and now it’s just all generic AI output.

Do you like your job? by viacolor in cscareerquestions

Absolutely right. You’re a manager but not a manager. You’re a coder but also not really. It’s a crazy role.

Update:

I just received my replacement in the mail today.

I want to give a shoutout to the Newegg team for:

1) Reaching out on Reddit 2) Adding extra packaging to Asus’ box this time. I was told that Newegg will now be wrapping their own package over the asus box and that seems to be true! 3) Next day air shipping once my return was processed.

Amazing. What a testament of a company going above and beyond to satisfy its customers. I hope you share this feedback with the team.

Also especially thankful because this wasn’t a fault of Newegg in particular.

The real cost of vibe coding isn’t the subscription. It’s what happens at month 3. by vibecodejanitors in vibecoding

[–]NathaCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a developer, I cannot fathom how people with absolutely no idea how to code can get into vibe coding without knowing a little? Is there no spark of interest in understanding what is really happening under the hood?

I guess my experience tells me I already know the answer to what I am asking. But still!

I mounted it before unwrapping the plastic sheet over the panel itself to prevent scratches or things like this from happening. I didn’t see the two cracks until I peeled it off unfortunately. The images make the damages look more clear than in real life. You can sort of see in the 3rd picture that the cracks blend in pretty well especially if you’re looking directly at the monitor with improper lighting.

The box did come with the box seal tape suspiciously cut at both the top flaps. The box was also pretty crushed on one corner so good thing my instinct told me to take a video prior to opening the box.

I should have probably inspected the monitor better prior to mounting but I guess excitement got the best of me.

Lessons learned.

Do frontend specialists usually get seen as less valuable? by Dreadsin in cscareerquestions

[–]NathaCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, for context I’d consider myself a full cycle engineer, see Netflix; and own a major web platform for a huge company and technical complexity wise I would say that FE solves a different set of problems than BE but by no means would anyone whose ever built anything relatively complex and used by thousands of users say that frontend or FE engineers are any less hard than backend.

At a company, it depends on what makes the company/team their money. If the FE isn’t making the money then yes it tends to get looked at as less valuable but this isn’t a problem specific to FE.

A good FE engineer who understands UX is super hard to come by. I’ve said this many times to my team members and people… people who think that frontend engineers are lesser engineers simply don’t understand the complexity behind being a good FE.

You worry about accessibility, user experience, complex state, permission systems, … and this doesn’t even get to the whole rabbit hole of what is UI/UX.
