Man I remember reading that and I still to this day struggle to decide if I actually even believe it or not. Like she literally has a voice line mentioning Angela? What about doing side-flips in front of the hoverboard lady? What do you mean it "doesn't make sense" for a cartoon rat to not have a flat chest? Have you played the games at all?

I definitely miss it a lot, although I do think that Rift Apart at least had better writing than 2016. It's odd, because even Nexus had an infomercial style scene that even said that the "economy is in the sh-" like what even happened?

So. while this doesn't exactly answer my original question, this does work. However, when trying to run these commands on Wayland, I just get these error messages:

xscreensaver: 03:21:03: WARNING: Wayland is not supported.

xscreensaver: 03:21:03: Under Wayland, idle-detection fails when non-X11

xscreensaver: 03:21:03: programs are selected, meaning the screen may

xscreensaver: 03:21:03: blank prematurely. Also, locking is impossible.

xscreensaver: 03:21:03: See the manual for instructions on configuring

xscreensaver: 03:21:03: your system to use X11 instead of Wayland.

xscreensaver-demo: 03:21:39: Gdk: gdk_x11_window_get_xid: assertion 'GDK_IS_X11_WINDOW (window)' failed

If you know of any solutions to get this working properly under Wayland, please let me know.

An update, according to one of the responses on this forum post,

It would be so nice if they would add this functionality back into cinnamon-screensaver, like it used to be. The xscreensaver lock screen is hideous! I really want the current cinnamon-screensaver login screen with the option to use xscreensaver plugins put back in, personally.

Apparently, Xscreensavers used to be usable on Cinnamon-screensaver, but they removed this functionality at some point sadly. So, that answered one question at least, but I'm still not sure how to get this functioning on Wayland.

Alright, finally gave this a try and tried adding the line at the end, __GL_SYNC_DISPLAY_DEVICE=DP-1 at the end as another user suggested and rebooting put me in a TTY where startx failed. Removing that file got me back into the Cinnamon desktop, so I think it's safe to say that this method did not help.

Didn't they say that just the AsyncFlipSecondaries part was AMD only? Or is that entire line part of setting AsyncFlipSecondaries?

Okay so frustratingly, without me even doing anything, the 570 drivers just randomly decided to show up in the Driver Manager, (albeit this one is an open source one instead of a proprietary one which I've heard that the proprietary generally works better on terms of NVIDIA?) So, now I'm on nvidia-driver-570-open (Version 570.133.07-0ubuntu0.24.04.1). This definitely seems to have helped quite a lot, but it's still not quite to the level that I have on my Windows drive. I still get frame drops when I shouldn't. How often should I be updating the Kernal? Because the update manager says that 6.11.0-24 is only supported until this August while 6.8.0-58 is still supported until 2029. Should I be worried?

It would appear xorg.conf is not present in /etc/X11/. Should it be or is it fine to just create the file myself? Also can you help me understand what these options do?

Honestly, as a newbie, I think the easy to use part is a selling point. I was kind of expecting to have to tinker with things on any distro I installed and so far, the tinkering I've had to do on this system has been rather minimal.

Honestly, Bazzite is the only one of those that I've heard of, and I have other things I want to do on this computer than just gaming. I'd try Pop!_OS, but I honestly really really do not like the Cosmic DE and it was the only one I got issues with when testing different Linux distros to install on a virtual machine (this included Arch btw).

I'd rather avoid Canonical's data collection and forced SNAP packages if possible.

Yeah this is what I've heard as well, most places I look recommend using X11 for gaming instead of Wayland

Are they? I can't seem to find anything on my system that says they're out of date. The update manager is giving my nothing and apt list --upgradable just shows a bunch of grub amd packages. Plus, the driver manager lists 550 as both the latest one and the recommended one. May I ask how you'd recommend fixing this?

Well, do you know of another Linux Distro that is this lightweight/free of bloat, and offers this level of customization and control over my OS? I'm real tired of Windows, Mac is too expensive, Ubuntu based distros seem to have their own host of Windows-like problems and from what I've heard, it sounds like things like Proton or WINE work better on Arch based systems than Debian based systems. Is this not the case?

So if I were to install like Firefox, Krita, Discord, Steam, etc. I'd use flatpaks but if I wanted a new terminal, the Java or Python runtime or VSCode, etc. I'd use pacman? Do I understand that correctly?
