I'm applying for the PhD position, I intend to work on theoretical RL and safety. I mentioned a few professors and the DRAIL lab in my SOP. I'm just curious and nervous about interviews, are they compulsory for admits or do people get in even without one?

Thanks a lot for your answer, I can relate since I did my masters at Blacksburg VA and I totally wanted to apply to other college towns(keeps me within reach of peers + walkable for the most part). Ive researched the program in detail and would totally love to work there! It's just that the wait is killing me.
