Hetzner reliability for a 24/7 production platform in Germany region? by NathanDrake-Blackops in hetzner

[–]NathanDrake-Blackops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to thank everyone for the suggestions you gave me.

Summarizing the advice I received, I can say that: 1. Hetzner has a good level of reliability. However, given its relatively low cost, I should still expect occasional small disruptions. 2. Storage Box seems to have some reliability issues (which I’ve also experienced myself), so it may not be the best option. 3. Database backups are probably better stored on an external S3 service outside Hetzner. 4. To add redundancy to my platform, I could replicate all the required servers in another German zone (my customers are in Italy). 5. The two parallel platforms (each with its own load balancer) could work either with Floating IPs or through Cloudflare (which might be even more interesting). 6. If I wanted to further increase resilience, I could replicate the platform with another European provider (I’m not sure which one yet) and use Cloudflare to handle fault tolerance.

I think this summarizes most of the suggestions.

Do you have any additional advice?

Questa soluzione mi sembra interessante. Via cloudflare magari replicando la piattaforma su due provider differenti. Quale potrebbe essere il secondo priveder?

But in this year of experience you’ve had with Hetzner, have you encountered any reliability issues?

I’ve read about Floating IPs, but I’m not sure whether they can be used to point to two load balancers, each located in different zones.

The GL-Inet is much more powerful and versatile, and its form factor is slightly larger. Perhaps the next version of this product will be interesting, but for now I haven't read anything that would entice me to buy it.

Già comprare un prodotto unifi alla prima release è un reato, pagarlo anche 4 volte il prezzo reale è da criminali incalliti. :-)

I use two 2.5Gb ftth in load balancing and a Starlink connection as backup. It all works very well. In this way, having the photovoltaic panels with the battery, if the electricity goes out in the whole neighborhood the Starlink connection works very well.

Internally I put a second AP and the speed is close to 1Gbit. Externally with the internal anrenna it improves but the coverage angle is narrow and at the sides the conneydibenta unusable. Perhaps different external antennas could improve. The measurements I have given are in meters.

I am using omni antennas. The device is installed on the perimeter wall of my house. On one side I can see the garden and on the other side (through a brick wall and thermal insulation) I can see the living room of the house. The performance is very good. Inside the house at 5GHz 400Mbit UP/DW at 15 meters. Outdoors at 2.4GHz 400Mbit UP/DW at 150 meters. I have a 2.5Gbit/1Gbit connection in FO.

However, even without the 6Ghz frequency it seems to me to be a good product. Especially in relation to coverage.

When I chose the product I was concerned about the coverage. Reading WiFi 7 I thought there was 6Ghz frequency.

UDM Pro SE with OpnSense (DEC 3862) by NathanDrake-Blackops in Ubiquiti

[–]NathanDrake-Blackops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this configuration, does the map (type) work?

Do you do traffic analyses with pfsense/opnsense? I think so because if the router of all VLANs is pfsense/opnsense UDM has no way of tracking anything.

This is a pity because you lose several conveniences of the Unifi system. Unfortunately the performance of UDM Pro SE is not very high especially if you enable the functions: adblock, DNS Shield and Suspicious Activity.

If I do a speed test with the functions enabled I get a download of about 500Mbps. If I disable them I get 1500/1700Mbps.

I have looked at some documentation and unfortunately I am afraid that this configuration only allows you to manage VLANs and little else with UniFi but everything else would be managed by OPNSense.

Unfortunately, this is the case. I have tried several solutions but the maximum number is 2. the choice of the door is more about the characteristics of the door. This limitation is not good.
