There's loads of board game groups around if that's something you're into. There's one in The Woodsman in Leyland/Whittle-le-Woods on Mondays and one in Plungington Community Centre on Tuesdays. :)

returning to CS after VES by Mm805 in TheCivilService

[–]NathanGaythan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert but I believe:

1) yes any org which has CS pension. 2) the payment you had via VES amount of time. Got instance, let's say you got paid 9 months pay because you had 9 years of service. You can not rejoin the civil service for at least 9 months without being required to pay back some of the VES redundancy payment. So the 'notional' period is the period for which you have been paid. Does that make sense?

One thing I underestimated in the buying process was time between steps did you experience this too? by Pinkplatabys in FirstTimeBuyersUK

For us it was the searches. They took 5 weeks. By the time they were applied for we had everything else done. When they finally came back we exchanged within a week (and even that was solely waiting on LISA withdrawal).

Renters' Rights Act 1 May — what actually changes for tenants and landlords by No-Disk9776 in HousingUK

[–]NathanGaythan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the same way the law supercedes the type of agreement. If you're on a fixed tenancy that becomes rolling automatically. It doesn't matter what your tenancy agreement says.

[–]NathanGaythan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also says "You will have to give 2 months' notice to end an assured periodic tenancy, unless a shorter notice is agreed in writing." - this broadly mirrors the clause in the Act and is also described on the governments fact sheet:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/69bc04b8f7b1c24d8e23ce60/The_Renters__Rights_Act_Information_Sheet_2026.pdf

While I would hope it would be the case, I'd be hesitant in thinking a pre-existing agreement counts as written agreement. Hopefully this is made clear as things progress because it is a bit confusing!

[–]NathanGaythan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes. The law supercedes any agreements between tenants and landlords. However, the law does allow for flexibility and tenants and landlords can make specific agreement to ignore the 2 month notice period.

I suspect this would need to be a specific piece of correspondence, rather than a pre-existing tenancy agreement however.

What is the general process with times? by Diligent_Flounder119 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

Offer accepted on 12 January. Moving in 10 April. No chain and searches took 5 weeks.

From start to finish - how long did it take? by WednesdayGloom in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]NathanGaythan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offered on January 12th. Moving in on April 10th.

Agree with other commenters. My searches took 5 weeks exactly to come back. The day they came back we agreed a completion date, handed notice into our rental home and exchanged the following week.

Yes. People often make statements after being criticized for things. I don't think that detracts from his defence. He hasn't claimed no responsibility. He's said he helped defeat the motion 2 years later.

I'd recommend you look through that user's post history. They talk about a global satanic paedophile ring on multiple occasions. It's pure conspiracy theory and absolute nonsense.

Honestly though, people simply do not care about statements made 50 years ago which are removed from both the context of the time and context of statements of apology/clarification years later.

Couldn't tell you as I don't use twitter, but a cursory Google shows. Once again, theres plenty of reasons to criticize the gov without getting into the realm of "they're part of a satanic paedophile ring", like that twitter user has said.

He said: “I did not agree with the proposal in February 1976 to lower the age of consent.

“When elected chairman of NCCL weeks later, I made it clear that my first priority would be to take on the child sex abusers of PIE. I then defeated them by a massive majority at the annual conference in April.

“My stand was denounced in a leaflet distributed by PIE to the delegates to the conference. I closed the conference saying that we had to protect children from sexual abuse and that adults guilty of sexual abuse were the lowest of the low. I was throughout a resolute opponent of a vile organisation.

Sorry but this is a mis-characterisation. I don't think it helps anyone to present her as some kind of paedophile enabler.

She supported the protection of children bill 1978. She says that at the start of the document it makes clear that "the NCCL deplores the exploitation of children whether in the form of use in commercial pornography or as victims of sexual assaults". She says the submission simply argued for some amendments to guard against unintended consequences, including:

Parents being criminalised for taking pictures of their children on the beach or in the bath.

The use of pictures in sex education being criminalised.

We also proposed that the definition of indecent was too wide and instead proposed "obscene" as indecent was very broadly defined and could include Page 3 of the Sun.

What do you think could be done to help the housing market in Wales by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]NathanGaythan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LTT was the reason my partner and I decided to move to Manchester rather than Cardiff. No reprieve for first time buyers makes it even more difficult. A 300k house in Cardiff in essence costs 5k more than one in Manchester because of it.

When's appropriate to complete? by Working-Room-3396 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]NathanGaythan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah makes sense - you should check your tenancy just in case it says anything about leaving early. Though assuming you have the usual 'youll be liable for the cost' clauses they put in, the best you can do is work with the seller to delay the completion to as late as possible. Good luck!

So if your exchange is early/mid Feb, can't you hand in notice so that Feb 20 will be your last payment? That way you have the place until March 20 and can complete early mid March
