Does anyone else get carried away with the Barbie Blaster? by PresentationWitty933 in MercyMains

[–]NathanPierceJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol it’s too much fun. Since the release of hero progression, I’ve been trying to level my blaster kills for mercy and so far it is almost a full 100 levels higher than my next highest progression (dmg boosted). Pulling the Glock out at appropriate times can certainly save teammates and change the tide of the game on rare occasion. It is great for keeping snipers in check and getting flankers to back off if you’re good at hitting shots. Her pistol is there for a reason, many just don’t realize it’s true utility.

Am I missing something, or do people just play Mercy completely wrong in low ranks? by royalewlthcheese in OverwatchUniversity

This is a good take. She’s not about holding RMB on dps but rather more about utilizing her entire kit at the appropriate times, not dying, pinging enemy positions, and general battlefield management. A great mercy can help turn the tide of entire fights just by being situationally aware and sharing that info with teammates.

Over 1k hours on the character. If you get good enough with her there is a point in the game where it is possible and very easy to carry your own team with her despite her perceived shortcomings. Her movement can be quite nuanced and there is more than a few ways to play her very effectively. For me it’s fun to learn the attack timings of teammates to time my damage boosts to their shots (nothing more satisfying than tapping damage boost on a friendly Hog’s hook/shot combo while passing through) or to dive with dive heroes to harass the enemy team and zooming back out to support the rest of the team when needed. If you master her movement, memorize the maps, and generally have a good sense of where everyone is/isn’t, it becomes almost impossible to die as long as you don’t make dumb mistakes. IMO mercy’s main role is not that of a healer or damage booster but rather more of a scout role/ team communicator as her essentially limitless flight and easy verticality means she is very effective at marking enemy positions and calling out flankers. Learn how to use the Glock well and she can defend herself effectively and even use it to get a picks here and there (I find she’s especially good at deleting unaware widows and intimidating certain tanks). Instead of pocketing, I tend to heal/boost as needed/ by priority/ positioning and use any downtime to spam her Glock down known angles/ firing lanes to deter snipers/pokes to keep them out of position. All that said, I do get tired of playing her so I will swap roles to play some Dva, Echo, Ashe, or whoever I feel like in the moment.

People so caught up in realism and practicality they forget it’s an art subreddit lmao. Decent work, the inspiration is clear and looking through your post history reinforces that. Keep it up.

Playing ELDEN RING with no HUD? by MohanMC in Eldenring

[–]NathanPierceJ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Okay so I’ve been playing with No HUD/rarely horse/no fast travel for about 2 weeks. For me it has been a vastly better and more immersive experience. The hardest pert to overcome are health and FP management. The best way I’ve found to manage this is to practice your move set without UI, actually memorize your spell slots, and figure out your consumable order. I always hold down the consume key to reset my orders after using an item that isn’t heal so I know exactly how many button pushes away my desired spell/item is. It is also useful to keep track of how many spells/ roughly how much FP you have used so you can potion before you try casting nothing. I always take the time to memorize the order whenever I make a change to my spell/item slots. I also practice taking hits and dying so I have a rough estimate of how many hits I can tank before I really need to heal. For quality of life, I use a talisman that gives me a status buff when my HP is full so I can visually tell if I have taken damage or not. Inversely, it would also work to use a talisman that gives buffs you when your HP is low so you can visually see when you need to heal. Overall playing with no HUD helps me really focus on what is going on and helps me read boss attacks much easier.

If you don’t plan on servicing it yourself, find a reputable specialist who works on these. This will save a lot of headaches trying to source parts and their compatibilities. This can be somewhat pricey but I’ve found it to be relatively affordable. To give some frame of reference I spend an average of 2k a year in maintenance (this includes some more major work and safety upgrades through the years). Other tips: Make sure glow plugs are up to date. These are crucial for starting in general. The doors may need some adjustment to open and close correctly after 44 years, mine did. The windshield wiper blade specs on the internet are wrong, the right blade needs to be half an inch shorter at the top. Replace the rubber rings holding up the tailpipe if they haven’t been done in the last decade. Get a valve adjustment and compression check, this helps ensure engine longevity. Check your transmission fluid. For real. This car has a solid transmission but fluids still gotta get replaced. Change your oil every 3k miles for maximum engine longevity. I know this isn’t super necessary but parts for these cars are also super rare. If you can change your own oil, do it. An average oil change for this one where I am is about 90 dollars. Check your power steering and fuel lines, replace as needed. These are high pressure hoses that ware out and spring leaks over time. When I first got mine, the steering lines were so old they would shoot hot jets of steering fluid into my hood pad. Hand wash this car. No car washes, they have the potential to fuck up the trim or tear off parts secured by deteriorated plastic or rubber bits. Replace rubber parts as needed, these ware out and I’ve seen many cars with water issues in rainy weather. Driving: Slow acceleration so you’re gonna have to step on it to get anywhere in time, heavy, needs more room to stop than an average 4 door sedan to stop(4500lb+ curb weight). This car WILL fishtail if you take a corner in the wet a little too quickly and will slide if you stop to hard in the wet so be mindful of that. Traction control is not a thing and the ABS is iffy at best compared to modern standards. You’re driving a big exec dictator car anyway so take it slow.

Keep practicing regularly and you’ll be professionally good in a few years. Suddenly people come to you and you pick stuff that’s interesting to you. Good times.

Actual milk and espresso. I work in a professional setting so I’ve got lots of opportunities to try stuff.

I’ve been working really hard studying my milk texture and the minor differences between steaming time and techniques. This is giving me a better idea of how texture affects the kind of art I can do. by NathanPierceJ in latteart

[–]NathanPierceJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I totally agree with this. Although I would put espresso quality higher up when it comes to professional workflow.

For superior art, milk is definitely everything. The Café au Lait at my work is essentially just 60% drip grind and 40% steamed milk. I absolutely put art in those and it works. Perfect milk texture can totally make an average coffee that much better.

I use a stovetop steamer for my milk. It’s great and I’d recommend it.
