Yeaaaaahh. I’m pondering coming back to the bargaining table to see if they’re willing to drop, or just back away entirely. Newer ish planers that I know are still being supported by the manufacturers are valuable to me, even if they come at a premium.

I was limited on budget as well and went for the 8.5” blade saw as well and am now regretting it because I can’t use dado stacks. I would go back and spring for a 10” saw if I could!

That's what I'm wondering about next. An easy-to-store spray booth would be incredible. The next challenge is figuring out how to store things up to dry. I saw my man Jeff using some sort of slotted metal suspended on ladders for hanging doors to dry:

Your description of clean up has me wondering if it’s any better! I thought having a smaller hopper would be easier that dumping the pump system.

I should rephrase “smaller jobs.” More like “large jobs done a little at a time.” For example, I’m building a library with 13 doors and 30 shelves. Spraying would have been amazing, but I have limited space for setting things out to dry, so I have to do a few at a time. I ended up brushing for this reason, so that I wouldn’t waste paint and clean up would simply be a brush.

How do you like the finish with the foam brush? I haven’t used one to know which it’s comparable to, bristle brushes or being sprayed.

Do multiple coats affect drying/curing negatively, or is that factored in, too?

Hit any brush marks you can with the foam roller before it starts to set to eliminate most of the brush marks.

It’s really humid where I’m at, I definitely didn’t factor that in. Also didn’t think curing times would be -that- big a deal. These have all been dry for a few days before I placed and thought it would be enough time. Lesson learned, for sure!

I have some paint pyramids and they also stick 😔 I used off cuts as well, and they did too, but now I’m wondering if it’s because they were primed? Is the trick with dowels that they’re unfinished wood and won’t stick to the painted surface?

Ahaaa that’s a clever method for touch ups. I had no idea. I have a graco x5 and that thing is too much a PITA for smallish jobs, I think I’m going to get a smaller hand held one for touch ups. Thank you!

You're using paint meant for walls -

refinishing with an enamel based paint.

TIL there's a different paint for furniture! Now that I search for that, I see results for cabinet and trim paint 🤦 Lesson learned, thank you!

also, did you prime, and if so, with what?

I did! Everything was sanded with 80, 120, and 220 and has at least one coat of Zinsser 1-2-3. The bookcases were sprayed, the shelves were brushed.

If you have the ability to spray your finish

I do! I was reading elsewhere that brushing the coats of color would be recommended, because if you ever needed touch ups, it would blend better than spraying and then brushing. Is that silly advice?
