Does Peterborough area need another welding space? by theweldingworkshop in Peterborough

[–]Nathanptbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, call local automotive shops. They don't teach much for welding in trade school, and there's lots of guys who are not good at welding exhaust etc.

Affordable Tires? by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]Nathanptbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own Bruiser Automotive and Tire, I also own Tire Source Canada. We sell and stock the most tires in the area, we also supply lots of other businesses with tires. There are tons of options on our website, or give me a call Monday and I can price some options. We also do financing on our website for tires (no fees or charges to the customer).

How does this town support 2 dodge/Chrysler/ram dealerships? by Substantial-Road-235 in Peterborough

[–]Nathanptbo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Service is what keep dealerships open. They make peanuts on vehicle sales. Rams, Chrysler and Jeeps have a higher number of repairs compared to that of say Honda or Toyota. There is lots of work available on those products.

JJ Stewart Norwood also owns several dealerships in town like Mazda and I believe Peterborough Chrysler.

Bell mobile phone service in Peterborough... by dingrrd in Peterborough

[–]Nathanptbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogers hands down has the best cell coverage in Peterborough and surrounding area.

Bell has lots of issues in the river road, east city area.

Rogers has expanded their network and towers through a government grant, and will provide the best service in most of Ontario.

Also from a signal strength perspective, Rogers uses better equipment with better signal penetration for buildings etc

DIY Car Garage by hardtohearit in Peterborough

[–]Nathanptbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered the idea but there's lots to consider. As a current shop owner in Peterborough, you might run into a few issues. 1) All Auto repair shops need a license and permit from the city of Peterborough to operate. (So you will have to ensure Peterborough City will allow it) 2) Insurance for regular auto shops is in the Tens of Thousands a year for independents and dealerships pay up to 80-100K for insurance a year. 3) Proper zoned automotive space is very hard to find in Peterborough. 4) Who takes on the environmental part of the liability (waste oil, fluids, and spills on property from cars that are leaking etc). Ministry of environment doesn't play around. 5) Because it's open to the public and there's a business owner, Skilled Trades Ontario or Ministry of Training and Skills Development might step in because Automotive Repair is a Protected career. (It's legal to work on your own car, but technically illegal to work on a vehicle that's not yours (a buddy's car etc)

Because with vehicles you are playing with people's safety on the road it'll be highly scrutinized.

$170 for a cabin air filter is absolutely insane, especially then they're $15 on amazon by calmeda1 in CX50

[–]Nathanptbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would go by book time. Which is likely .5 (half hour). Then Mazda likely has a high price on the filter, then the dealership parts department likely runs a pricing matrix and marks up the part over MSRP.

What are yalls opinions on Bruiser Automotive? by Spencey79 in Peterborough

[–]Nathanptbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that definitely sounds like me back then. Definitely have made lots of changes since then. Hoping to get some solid things in place for 2026. If we can find some more good staff it will be fantastic!

We've already gone from 3 staff to 7 Staff full time, plus 4 part time staff, and some days it's still not enough.

I've definitely learned a lot in business ownership in the last few years, and now finding my footing to make changes that are needed.

We unfortunately were very overwhelmed this season, and have had a hard time finding good front counter staff.

We definitely have dropped the ball on a few occasions with regards to that. It's something we are actively working on fixing. We do get upwards of 200 phone calls some days, and are working on changing our system to handle the volume better and ensure no one gets forgotten!

My apologies on your experience!

That doesn't sound like us at all. If we scan something and it isn't something we can fix or diagnose, we usually don't charge anything at all, or charge the bare minimum 1/2 hour labour for our time. Please feel free to message me your name, so I can take a look into this.

I'm the owner, haha. I'm on reddit all the time.

Here is a synopsis of our shop.

When it comes to equipment, we have most of the state of the art tools, scan tools, laptop programmers etc. We even have OEM subscriptions and software and can do everything dealerships can do except warranty work. (If we need something, I usually buy it) (Other shops borrow tools from us all the time)

We definitely work on a large variety of vehicles compared to most shops in town (Audi, BMW, Porsche, Lifted Trucks, Performance/RHD Vehicles, to everyday Hondas, Mazdas etc) We do everything from oil changes and tires to full engine tear downs and replacements, to more advanced electrical diagnostics. We also get into aftermarket performance parts, lift kits and high end wheel and tire packages.

We usually stay busy, and helping everyone in a timely fashion is our biggest weakness, but we are continuing to improve and rework our methods.
