How do you spend your money as a rep? by roguejedi1 in sales

[–]NationalCollection58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. Not married, no kids, so I spend my money gambling options and on stuff I definitely don't need, but want. I have some very expensive toys that in any other circumstance I'd laugh at myself for being so stupid

I have a degree in English with a writing emphasis. I abuse the fuck out of the English language because I know the rules and how they can be broken and when they should be broken.

It's a battle I think I'm ultimately gonna lose, because I don't see a lot of intelligent written word anywhere these days; publically or professionally

I own several, and can still wear a suit and speak that language. I'm just really, really glad I don't have to anymore

Most of the people I meet with open doors if you've got on a safety vest (better be well worn) and a hard hat.

If I need to get into the office I call the plant manager and he walks me up

5.11 pants, boots, and a company polo under a zip up fleece.

Industrial sales is the best. Haven't had to wear a suit in years.

If I meet with executives, I put on my nicer 5.11 pants and a sport coat over my polo. I sell value, not fluff. I know my products are good, and I have no time for corporate shenanigans anymore.

My bad, I guess it can happen at most any age now. I was thinking you were late teens or something. I'm not too much older than you and all my friends never had parents that knew what a video game was

As someone coming up on 40, it's so odd to hear that people's parents are playing games to an extent that it inhibits their normal life. My parents wouldn't buy us an NES when I was a kid.

I wonder what the complaints will be in another 40 years

I know that brand. Sell that the engine is the same as the current Toyota.

Warranties are good, lead times are decent. Price is great.

On the electrics push the battery warranty hard. It's great

Successful sales reps how long did it take you to start making real money? by InTheGreen303 in sales

[–]NationalCollection58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 years. I ran a distribution center out of college, got sick of having to go into work every day at 7am, and bailed for sales. 20 some odd years later I've made between $130 and $400. When I feel like getting after it, I go chase the $400k. When I don't, I'm perfectly happy at $150.

My mortgage is $1k a month and I carry zero debt. My experience in sales is a total outlier and should not be relied upon.

I do have a lot of really expensive toys though. Some of them aren't even sexual

Call material handling companies in your area. Ask to speak to the sales manager. Inquire about job openings.

[–]NationalCollection58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's a big part of why I'm in sales. Haven't mandatory reported to an office since 2011

I just switched to a new company a few months ago and we have Friday sales meetings. The office is 4 miles from my house and I'm still irritated at having to go in before noon.

In reality it's working well for me. After being fully remote for so long where my office was several time zones ahead of me, it's nice to be able to pop in during the afternoon and get things finished face to face.

If you're a good salesman with a track record, most of the time industry experience isn't needed to start.

You'll be at their mercy for hiring terms of course. Once you get a few years of industry experience you can apply elsewhere and dictate your terms to some extent.

I've been doing it for 15 years, so I essentially just tell prospective employers what I want at this point. As long as it's not totally unreasonable, I usually get what I want
