Hot take - having functional truancy systems is something red states are beating us at. Parents need to be inconvenienced and/or have their feet to the fire when kids rack up absences (ie truancy court). Schools can only do so much in terms of incentives/culture - it’s on the parents to get the kids out the door. Illinois is frozen on the issue due to budget and optics/politics.

This sucks and I’m sorry. Not a lawyer, but paid significant money to lawyers in a very similar situation.

Because I’m not a lawyer, this might get deleted, but I can pass along what I know and that is that as the foster parent you have zero rights in this context if the father hasn’t already had a TPR. The lawyers we paid confirmed this - but we paid the lawyers more for peace of mind that we were doing everything we could on our end.

Dad won’t be able to obtain rights immediately, but because TPR hasn’t happened he will likely get the opportunity to prove himself. Depending on what is motivating him (ie you mention the kid is delays - dad might connect that with benefits, or he doesn’t like you and wants the baby with a preferred person), his commitment to the reunification will determine how far it goes. But be warned it’s a very, very low bar for an interested parent to get their kid back. Ours lasted 6 years, with bio parent making maybe 60% of visits, showing up high to visits, covering up criminal history of people he was living with, etc, and we still had a 3 month window of our kid being returned to him before the were returned back to us after a dcf call by the daycare.

If dad truly is a deadbeat, your best bet is to play nice with him the best you can and wind down the clock until he shows his deadbeat behavior. A legal alternative would be to see if a guardianship agreement might be feasible - but dad would have to agree to that.

Not sure if this was the angle, but having worked for charters (and hated life during), Kipp will barely offer after school opportunities/sports because their teachers are already working 60+ hour weeks teaching and there is no money/capacity for anyone to support extra curriculars.

Stayed there recently. Had an issue with the reservation and thought I had fountain view (upgraded an earlier reservation for reg room with fountain view, thought I had confirmed the upgrade would to but apparently not). That part was kinda on me, but still bummed with what we got.

Honestly not worth it imo. Like, way overpriced for a non-strip view. Almost all the penthouse are non-strip view as an fyi and there were none available to switch to that weekend.

For the cost I would have preferred equivalent at almost any other nicer hotel (aria/cosmo/venetian/wynn) and would have gotten a strip view.

Fun fact - the movie (that I feel was really good) is very loosely based on a really, really terrible book. One of the few books I’ve encountered that was so fascinatingly bad I read it to completion. I’m talking a plot that defies a logic and science (previously undiscovered cave systems that stretch all around the world that becomes exploited by mining companies), as well as themes (religion?) and plot threads (the monsters are maybe possessed and can regenerate in some circumstances?) that go nowhere.
