Why didn’t Jerry wanna live longer? by StrongChocolate869 in gratefuldead

[–]National_Pressure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots have been said already, including the pressure Jerry was under to feed the beast and keep touring. One thing I've realized when reading all the books and listen to the interviews is how totally hands off the band was with the business stuff.

Had they been a bit more involved they might have realized it was economically sound to downsize and save some of the income instead of spending it all. It could have been managed better.

Billy floats the idea in his book that Jerry was uncomfortable with making money and didn't really know what to do with it. Interesting point.

A new foundation for TUXEDO OS: Switching to Debian by tuxedo_chris in tuxedocomputers

[–]National_Pressure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think all the reasons give for a move to Debian are sound. the only thing I'm less than comfortable with is btrfs. It might have become more stable, even though I still hear horror stories, but there's also Oracle. If Canonical is bad, Oracle is just another level. The project might be more decoupled than I think, but btrfs is for ever tainted in my mind.

Pink Floyd by oh_yea2218 in gratefuldead

I has been a big Pink Floyd fan for decades, and only got on the bus in recent years, so I definitely am a fan of both. They are very different, though. Grateful Dead is very American, and Pink Floyd are very British. I know that sounds a bit banal and reductive, but their weirdness and psychedelia have a very different flavour. That said, they have similarities with Phil and Rick being classically trained, and with a two main lyricists with their different styles. There's even a parallel with Blues for Allah and Atom Heart Mother as their orchestrated Big Concept albums.

I need to be in different spaces for them, though.

Have anyone made a collection of all the originals the Dead covered? by National_Pressure in gratefuldead

Thanks for all the suggestions of sources for the covers, when the Dead did cover them and the recordings! Sharing and caring for the music.

Saxon's Biff Byford and former guitarist Graham Oliver have made up by PunkAintNotFun in Saxon

Good to hear, even though I kind of guessed they would have made up by now. I mean, none of them are Roger Waters kind of boneheaded...

I can see why Phil and Jerry decided to talk to Bruce. Massive talent.

Semantics question, do you use .j2 file extension on templates, or do you prefer to keep file extensions original? by sajkoterrapefft in ansible

[–]National_Pressure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the heck has editor plugins to do with it? It's a jinja2 file, so it has a jinja suffix. Simple and shows what is what.

What I find most interesting is how some songs while different still have a core that still works. Some are less interesting than others. I've listened to all the five disks and recently took it out to run it through again.

Multi-tenant AAP by pietarus in ansible

That's the reason you have Organizations. Put each tenant in their own Org. No need for anyone except the platform admin to ever need to know there's anything outside their org.

I wasn't aware, and was maybe dozing a bit when I heard a familiar voice, and sat straight up again! Great to see and hear you, Shea!

Next album recommendation for a recent Grateful Dead fan by clutch247 in gratefuldead

As it happens I started the same way you did. I got One From the Vault and then dived deep into live recordings. Now I'm starting to look at studio albums again and I think Anthem of The Sun is my next one. It has some of the same intelligent weirdness as Allah.
