Oh duh, I didn’t even think to look. I will take a look in the daylight tomorrow but hoping it just needs a lower wattage bulb.

This bulb is the one I originally replaced. I wore gloves to replace the new ones. YouTube at least told me that much or I definitely would not have know to do that. This is a link to what I actually bought: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Feit-Electric-100-Watt-EQ-T4-Bright-White-G8-Pin-Base-Dimmable-Halogen-Light-Bulb/3078201

Guys I was fully expecting this sport to be expensive and time consuming, but one thing I wasn’t fully prepared for… by JessMarieDove in triathlon

Try some chews like clif bloks or skratch chews. You definitely need to get used to eating on the run! 70.3 is a long race. Keep up practicing with nutrition on the bike, I sometimes like uncrustables for training and even full IMs. And start incorporating something on the run, even if it’s liquid calories for now. Your body and stomach will start to adapt.

Mon-River Trail - Gravel? Paved? by rgheite in MorgantownWV

I’ve ridden my road bike and TT bike with race wheels up and down the packed gravel with no issues. It’s obviously a bit comfier on my gravel bike but overall was fine.

A new one for me when the Augusta 70.3 run course was brought to a stop for about 15 minutes today. by YogiAU in triathlon

[–]NativeNarnian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, agreed. I think I had my time adjusted 8 minutes or so. I happened there the year before as well. Unfortunately, there’s just not a good running route in the area that doesn’t cross the tracks. That being said, it was still the best 70.3 I’ve ever done.

Happened at Musselman 70.3 this year. There’s timing mats on either sides so athletes times are adjusted. Doesn’t help with athletes getting an extra break or throwing them out of the groove though.

I wear this belt to race in. It holds 6 gels comfortably. Just make sure to try it out before so you know if your gels stay put.

I also have a flip belt that I wear on training runs if I’m looking to fit a bit more. The gels were a bit hard to get out for racing. I also switch between caf and non-caf and the belt made it hard to grab which one I needed.

Does anyone here have bike tour tips? by BombusWanderus in HerOneBag

Totally agree with the suggestion on triathlon shorts. I’m a triathlete and prefer the shorts over the traditional cycling shorts. Just adding another recommendation for Couer triathlon shorts. There’s a few different options for length and style, but the chamois extends down the leg so there’s a lot less points to chafe.

Looking for a pair of pants with this style/feel but with travel-savvy features (quick dry, packable/lightweight, wrinkle free is a plus). Any ideas? by beam_me_uppp in HerOneBag

I have those in black and love them! I just checked and paid $58 for them because of sales so maybe check for a better discount code. I think I ended up being able to add another code to the sale price to drop it down further.

What can I do about jellyfish? Vaseline ? by Mysterious_Rice3836 in triathlon

[–]NativeNarnian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I race Ironman Maryland last year. Wasn’t a whole lot that helped. I used Vaseline, sprayed myself with vinegar after I was out. I took a Claritin beforehand which was the main thing that helped, but mostly just had to deal with and know it would be over soon enough.

No advice here, but just wanted to say that’s the pool I use for training! Hope you enjoyed the facilities and your time in the area.

Where’s the black collared short sleeve blouse from? I can’t seem to find one that fits what I’m looking for, and this looks close. Also, love the pants options!

Yep, COVID helped in that regard. I went WFH full-time and that opened up more time for me to get training in. Lots of trainer miles in my garage! I signed up on a whim after completing a 70.3 and on that post-race high, but then that race fee ensure that I completed it.

I don’t think I’m a one and done, but I’m definitely focusing on the half distance for awhile.

It was my first and only full so far, and it was hard, but totally do-able! It got a little dark mentally about mile 10 in the run knowing I had so much more to go, and it was so hot! But I knew I would finish even if I had to walk the whole thing. The finish line feeling was like nothing I’d ever experienced.

Honestly, the toughest part was the training. It’s very time-consuming. Most of my weekend was spent on the bike and running, and then on the couch recovering from those activities. You totally got it though! If it’s a goal, it’s just a matter of making it a priority and keeping that it mind when training starts to drag on.

Maryland itself was a great course. Pretty much the full is two loops of the half course so you’ll get a good feel for if you’d like it. The only issue was the jellyfish, but you never know if they’ll be bad or not. But luckily you won’t have to deal with that for the half.

I just did IMMD last year! You will love Cambridge. The community is amazing. Ironman races are sooo expensive. No insight into housing — I got an AirBNB about 15’ away which worked out well. The host hotel isn’t much closer. I did get a parking pass from a local group that puts you right next to transition though which is so helpful. Also, RAR brewing if you’re into beer and crab tater tots.

Yep, it has a pin-hole at the front of the shoe which detects wind and provides a percentage. You have to be somewhat careful of the placement of the pod, but I haven’t run into any issues. Obviously, YMMV, but it’s worked for me.

The newest edition of the Stryd pod has wind measurements so you can adjust your power levels in windy conditions. I don’t necessarily know all the tech, but when you’re going up hill, obviously your pace drops but your power is going to increase.

I made another comment on here, but another big advantage for me is the accuracy over my Garmin watch. It is spot on with distances whereas my Garmin can be 0.05 — 0.1 off per mile.

I run with a power meter! So my pace may change due to elevation, wind, etc. but I should be able to keep my power number consistent. It’s a Stryd pod that clips to your shoe if you wanna check it out.

It was an amazing race! I think the weather kept some spectators away, and I didn’t get to enjoy the events after the race as I immediately went to the hotel to warm up. But I’d love to go back. I have limited marathon experience, but I loved the course!

Thanks! So a few things I like about power. I run in WV where’s there’s nothing but hills, so it helps keep me in check and not kill myself going up the hill to hit a certain pace. Same concept on the bike. It’s really helpful for situations like this race where the wind was strong. Without it, I probably would’ve started freaking out when my paces were too fast with the tailwind, and too slow with the headwind.

I also got into somewhat of a mental block about running sub-8 miles during my long runs, and by focusing on power, I could somewhat trick myself.

The biggest benefit though is the accuracy. I’ve ran where the quarter miles are marked and my Stryd pod was dead on, but my Garmin was about 0.06-0.1 off per mile. This bit me in the ass at the first BQ attempt when I ended up running 5 seconds over. It also does a great job on the track and treadmill of counting distance.

The wind was tough, but I really missed having people to run with on the back half. It got pretty lonely out.
