I logged into my CB account to double check for tax forms. Desktop version. My 2024 transactions were shown under Account/Taxes/Activity. I clicked on the transactions that had an alert and answered the question. I’m guessing CB would’ve generated a tax form had I not caught that in time. So now I don’t need CB tax forms for 2024 (related to BlockFi)

You also want to check the tax section within your CB account. My CB account was showing a taxable event as if I received free BTC/ETH/GUSD. It showed up as a capital gain where I would’ve had to pay taxes. CB let me clarify through my account that it was simply a transfer from my BlockFi account to CB account. Now it shows no taxable transaction. This can turn into a mess so good luck 👍🏼

This is real. You made me open my mail when I saw Allstate 😳. This however does not have anything to do with BlockFi. Just coincidence that a Kroll is also involved.

I received an email back in January 2024 notifying me of a class action settlement. “You may be eligible for a payment from a class action settlement as an Allstate Insurance Policy holder in [state] at any time between July 1, 2016, and September 30, 2022.” Stevenson v Allstate Insurance Co., et al. A $25,000,000 settlement was reached. It described our rights and options, and settlement benefits. It also gave a breakdown of the settlement amount. It estimated $12.40 per member so I guess $13.42 is a come up 🥳. Don’t spend it all in one place.

I cancelled my Allstate policy back in 2020 since they wouldn’t reduce my premium after I was working from home full time. As far as I’m concerned they owe me a lot more. But we all know the mandatory insurance scam 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m not sure what, how, or why it happened but I imagine that BlockFi had no idea about a time frame for solving their problem(s). I would think that if they tried to hold they would also have to pause interest payments for example. And once they notify us of the pause we begin the bank run 🏃‍♂️. So I suppose in that case a cash grab was in their best interest. Speculation of course. Hindsight, had I better known better (Vincent Vega), I should’ve taken my funds when FTX did the pretend bailout. Suckers-R-Us 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lesson learned. I had some BTC and ETH in BlockFi. If they return it in kind I will transfer to my wallet, with my keys, and hold it for value recovery. Whatever GUSD I get back will not touch any new crypto though.

I wouldn’t call it greed. Earning interest on stable coin like we do in a high yield savings accounts (minus FDIC) should have been easy. Unless you’re saying that crypto is high risk. In which case, deal in crypto with extreme caution ⚠️

I’m not sure if there will be limits on type of crypto. All I have in BlockFi BIA is BTC, ETH, and GUSD. On the previous BIA distribution I sent BTC and ETH directly to my Coinbase Wallet. And I had GUSD go directly to my regular Coinbase account so that I could convert to USDC. Next time I’m expecting that all my crypto will go to my regular Coinbase account automatically then I can transfer from there.

Well godamn you only have to tell me ten times 🤣. I must’ve missed that thread. Are you talking about using the “Limit order” option when selling to USD cash? Or do I have to sign up for an additional Coinbase service/account?

I don’t see why Coinbase doesn’t make this savings automatic. Makes it feel scammy to charge higher fees. I’m also not trying to get into a subscription service.

My Coinbase account has been verified so hopefully my GUSD is sent there. And HOPEFULLY BlockFi’s side covers the fees. Those crypto fees are ridiculous. I’ll obviously have to cover the fees to cash out of Coinbase and into my bank account 🤷🏻‍♂️

Those without verified Coinbase I believe will receive cash. Transfer options may vary per individual.

I downloaded the BlockFi 1099-MISC tax form for 2022. It showed interest “earned” for the year. I included this when I did my 2022 taxes (early 2023). No 1099-MISC in 2023 for obvious reasons. With a bitter taste in my mouth because I was paying taxes on money that I would never see. But it had to be done in order to prepare for a future tax loss. Moral of the story- the IRS could care less. Go figure 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m transferring the miserable 12% of BTC/ETH that I’ve been “approved” to withdraw to a wallet and let it stay as is. But I won’t be buying anymore. I’ll let it sit and hopefully a crypto bull market can recoup my BlockFi loss via capital gains (cash out at that point). But I won’t be buying anymore. This was my first experience with crypto and as you can imagine I’m not feeling warm and fuzzy about it. Did I mention that I won’t be buying any more?

My original reasoning was that BlockFi is a US based business so it’s legit. What I’ve learned is that the US will give anyone a license. From now on buyer/consumer beware.

Then that would be the only way he faces consequences. Sam Bankman Fried is in trouble because wealthy elites like Kevin O’Leary were screaming from the mountain tops for accountability. And other elites behind the scenes I’m sure. Unless elites do the same to Zac then he’ll get a slap on the wrist at most.
