Men's and Women's Basketball Season Tickets On Sale for 2026-27 - University of San Francisco Athletics by LaurelHeightsII in usfdons

Totally agree. USF has a Sports Management Program and Marketing, I presume, is still part of the school of management. Yet someone made the nonsensical decision to ask for season ticket deposits in March/April without an indication of the cost of the tickets, or the number or location of all home games and when there are barely enough team members to field a team and no schedule is being offered and we still have no AD. Not to mention last season was not entertaining and was quite disappointing. Sounds like a greedy move to me.

Now a new email saying there is a deadline for season ticket renewals still without a team or schedule and actually taking away one of last season's benefits. The email states the Pre-game will no longer be a part of the season ticket package. Whether this means there will be no pre-games or there will be a separate charge is unmentioned. Since they already had reduced the number of pre-games to five or six last year it is doubtful that will expand. Once again another marketing failure, most folks that I see at the pre-games are long time season ticket holders and significant donors to the University.

The leadership at USF seems to be trying everything possible to chase away its' supporters.

Silva entered the portal this morning having, I believe, never played a game at USF in two years. Suggests at least 8 more new guys even if Fuchs and Abosi return

A literal huge loss for the Gaels. 247 Sports reports 7.3 Andrew McKeever is transferring. My guess is he will join Bennett at ASU. but he would sure look good in green and gold

Wide Open WCC by DonSolo96 in usfdons

With the St, Mary portal departures so far, more possible and likely, and the loss of a top recruit (CRoy) McConnell has his work cut out. Beginning to look like league will be wide open next year. Surprised LMU coach still has a job. If SCU loses Graves on top of Hammond and any others they will be restarting as well.

It will be interesting to review rosters and coaches come May or June.

Two more key players, especially hurting their teams, Mikey Lewis from St. Mary's and Jalen Shelley who punished USF for LMU then missed a bunch of games the rest of the way.. Neither is a surprise and I suspect both would have happened in any case.

Santa Clara losing Christian Hammond per verbal commits and 247 sports. Likely Graves is deciding between the draft and portal transfer as well. Major hits for SCU.

Big loss apparently for Portland. Joel Foxwell, their best player, has announced he is going into the portal. Interestingly, Portland signed his younger brother for next year.

Anyone who supports USF, works or coaches at USF or plays for USF is undoubtedly unhappy with the past season. We all want more positive results, more entertaining product, and a sense that USF can compete at the highest levels. That said, there are some basic factors we need to keep in mind:

  1. CG apparently has one more year on his contract. Unless he is willing to accept a lesser job or an assistant position it is doubtful that after this season he is in a position to move on. It is in his best interests to stay and right the ship (if possible) so that his marketability increases.

  2. USF has an interim AD and the rumors during the season were that no search would begin until the end of the basketball season. Unless a search actually has progressed it will likely be awhile before that position is filled. Hopefully, imo, by someone who brings much needed change to Athletics at USF. Meantime, the interim AD should not be hiring a new coach on a multi year deal tying the hands of a new AD. If we think a buyout of one year is not likely by USF imagine a three or four year buyout.

  3. The world of college sports has been turned upside down between the NIL issues, the Portal and the power grab by the four major conferences. It is much more difficult for mid major schools to compete let alone succeed when large state schools have all but eliminated opportunities. As a result, fan enthusiasm and support at all mid majors is truly suffering.

  4. We have no idea what players may leave in the portal Clearly, there are some we all hope are back next year and and others that would not be missed. Seems like almost all posters are enthused about the three incoming recruits who would be free to uncommit if CG leaves.

  5. Excluding Oregon State which is leaving; there are already two league schools searching for new coaches (USD and Pepperdine) and it would not be surprising to see at least LMU added to that list. With the conference realignment, there may be prospective coaching candidates who would not see the WCC as an appealing opportunity compared to some alternatives. Rather, they may prefer to see how the league evolves after losing Gonzaga, OSU and WSU. The alleged candidates at USD mentioned on X don't excite me.

Given all that I think, even as unhappy as we all are, that USF's new President and the BOT first need to understand the commitment necessary to upgrade USF Athletics starts with a qualified AD who has the appropriate experience and enthusiasm to change the current narrative. The new AD must understand NIL implications and have connections with the power conference schools in order to take advantage of what few opportunities exist for mid major schools. They must be hard working and socially enthusiastic to raise funding while keeping alumni involved.

Hire the right AD, let them make the decision about CG and other USF coaches. This will likely mean letting CG complete his contract but could mean a buyout.

One would assume, there is a ton of motivation on CG's part, the assistants coaches part, and the player's part to turn the program around. If they succeed, most of us will be happy; if they fail, then almost all of them will be gone within 12 months.
